28-04-2013 Promotion to the Premier
After last season's play-off heartbreak, Aldhous Athletic went one better this year and secured automatic promotion to the Premier Division, despite finishing with two points fewer.
There was a carnival atmosphere around Gutbarge Road on Sunday night as Athletic went from Div VI to the Prem in seven seasons. And in a campaign where the club reached their first Hattrick Cup final, James Evans was quick to pay tribute to the club's sparring partners.
"Huge credit to BuDy and Man Kingston who pushed us all the way. This is a golden moment in our 10-year history, and on another day we might not have been so lucky.
"We're sad to leave behind a brilliant Div II - good teams and great people."
Promotion was achieved with a 3-1 win at Hucktrick - the result being much to the gaffer's surprise.
"Form has been destroyed by our cup exploits. The average today was 'inad (low)' and we've got real work to do in the coming weeks. But that's not for now - tonight's about celebrating."
