2-9-2014 Hanley Admires Queens Road as Aspen Drop Points

CF Aspen manager Charlie Hanley was in a philosophical mood today as he watched his side held to a 1-1 draw by Queens Road Athletic.

The men from Reach Gardens were full of confidence after putting four goals past the best team in England, Brow of the Hill South, last week. And, after 70 minutes played, Aspen were top of the league as Livercrewe Tigers held an unexpected one goal lead over Brow.

But a disciplined counter attacking display held Aspen to a draw in Berkshire whilst Brow rallied to score 3 goals in the last 15 minutes to get all three points.

"We didnt expect them to set up defensively. We were expecting a crowded midfield battle and were caught unawares. Full credit to their manager for out-witting us like that, but it was a real chance to get within two points of the top of the league."

Aspen have now drawn three games in the first half of the season, points that they desperately need if they are to be crowned champions of the most competitve league in II.
