Top-scorer title to Jim Shereswood
Jim Shereswood secured the top-scorer title in the last game of the season, in which he made his 14th league goal of the season. Together with his 15 cup goals and 1 NT goal this season, he's at 30 goals in just 14 weeks.
The top-scorer title is one he was after for quite a while, after having ended 2nd twice earlier (2 and 3 seasons ago).
Manager of the Strats, Strategist, was happy about the 6-2 win but not delighted. After being up 6-2, the team played defensively... removing the chances of an "average supernatural" game. The 2nd spot in the league was secured as well, which is not too great of a position with an eye on the cup next season - but the only goal next season is the title and direct promotion (like it was these last 3 seasons...)
At home in the cup!
For the first time in a very long time, The Strategists will play a home game in the cup again.
This next Wednesday, SC 't zere been is the opponent for this monumental occasion. The Strats are considered major favorites and some fans are already thinking about reaching the semi finals, the final, or even winning the cup (though the manager states that promotion this season is still the main goal).
Jim Shereswood just recovered from an injury in the morning before last Wednesday's game, and even though he missed a penalty, he did score another 2 goals yet again. He's now at 10 goals in the cup this season, and is looking to break his personal cup record this season. For that he will need to score more though; and if he does really well on that aspect, he may even reach the topscorerlist for the cup... a spot in the top 10 is currently secured with "just" 4 more goals...
Neil has landed!
After having missed the near perfect player earlier today on the transfer market, the second option for the wing back position was signed today. Around 1.7 million euro's were paid for the services of Neil Hendy, a player who recently had his 27th birthday and fits in perfectly with the group of players.
Hendy is from Australia, but I doubt anyone at the club will hold that against him. He's a wing back who can do everything that's needed on that position; defend, help out the winger in front of him, and he's even OK when we try to make the play.
His signing completes the first team that has only one target this season: promotion to division III. The team may be "in the red" for a few weeks now, but the current cup run may just help out enough on that front. There's even some people saying that if the Strats win the next cup game, they might see their first home-cup-game since quite a few seasons...
Time will tell, but Neil's arrival will surely help!
On the lookout
The games are going great, only one game was not won so far this season.
Players are returning from their injuries and hopefully the team will be at full strength again soon, in order to fight for promotion this season once and for all.
The team however is still on the lookout for a new wing back. Funds are limited but the saved up cash is nearing the amount needed for this last required player.
After this player is in, all that's needed, financially speaking, is the money to train Aki Hogman into becoming the new coach. Plans at the club are to train him into an excellent coach at some point in time and as with everything, this costs cash.
Let's hope that a good cup run and/or continuing good results in the league can provide the required funds for The Strategists to make it to their goal: the Eredivisie!
The Strategists manager has suddenly taken a long weekend. Rumors are he's visiting the countryside for some well earned time off from work after finalizing a huge project there which took almost half a year.
He is expected to return around Tuesday evening, perhaps logging in once to settle a friendly still. Any mails will be answered on his return.
Today, a visit to Singapore was scheduled for the team.
Unfortunately, the manager forgot to fly along with the team and therefore no team was set in time to play the game. Precious training was lost this week and the manager is feeling very bad about this.
Sources say that the manager is not reachable for further comments.
Christmas vacation schedule
As per tomorrow, Strategist will be on vacation for two weeks.
Forums will (largely) remain unread, HT-mails can suffer delays of up to 4 days for being read and answered, and all other things will likely suffer delays as well.
We here at The Strategists wish you a merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and joyful 2013!
Vacation periods coming up
As the Christmas and new year holidays are coming up, the activity of Strategist will be very limited:
15-17 December: No internet.
22 December - 06 January: Vacation, and therefore very little internet time.
Replies to mails will likely suffer delays.
For U20 Ireland this means that replies will be handled twice/week.
For the flags, lotteries will all be handled in the middle of the week.
The club team will hopefully not suffer too much during their race for the title in IV.28 this season.
Due to internet issues at home, Strategist will be managing the team only for limited periods of time until further notice.
This unfortunately also lowers any things done for U20 and NT's that he is helping out.
We hope everything gets settled soon so it all can return to normal.
EDIT: Monday evening now, 21:00 local time... and we're back!
Will work on U20 / NT stuff as from tomorrow again...
