The crowd roared in delight as
K. Vilka finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for Canes 14 minutes into the match. 1 - 1.
DIAKOS's
Y. Mpousoulas got himself booked for a foul.
Some great play up the middle by Canes led to a chance for
C. Popolizio to score after 26 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
Canes took the lead 29 minutes in, as
J. Ingelby broke through on the left and put the 2 - 1 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper.
2 - 1 was the score after the first half.
Canes claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
L. Hamza squirmed through their central defence after 51 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 1.
Cheers filled the stadium as
E. Kirby broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 1 to Canes.
Canes put themselves up 5 - 1 when
K. Hurskainen broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
A. Jank was called on to replace Canes's
O. Weber after 62 minutes following a nasty collision.
Canes's
H. Ohrenhofer had an excellent opportunity after 64 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles!
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
K. Vilka got himself booked. The manager of Canes was not happy.
67 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
K. Vilka broke through, making the score 6 - 1 for Canes.
By now, the players in Canes felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
This part of the game was a standoff between the teams in terms of possession.
Canes's best player was
E. Kirby.
On the other hand,
J. Ingelby's play was disheartening.
DIAKOS's top performer was clearly
A. Gerasimatos.
Y. Mpousoulas on the other hand, had a terrible day.
