previous 9/10 next 1/10  Zoilo 5 - 4 DJ (367347798)

35597 spectators had come to Valderas Coliseum this cloudy day. Kristaps Ešmanis was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Draško Miljković and Julien Billard. Zoilo tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Lineup: Trzaskalik - Schopf, Cicero, Vermezović - Saltarelli, Paulín, Grimaldi, Van Hout, Derosi - Sarmanho, Taddei.

DJ decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. The following players took the field: Férez - Santos, Trman, Skrabacz - Daknılı, Lassiter, Jaroenprasert, Rosés, Erdtmann - Ben Jeddou, Buist.

Zoilo saw most attack opportunities on the wings. DJ used their skill at pressing to cut off the attack angles of their opponents all over the field. The terraces were silenced after 4 minutes when DJ's Ž. Trman put the guests ahead 0 - 1, following an attack on the right. Due to some great work on the right wing Zoilo's G. Vermezović was able to even the score after 20 minutes to make the score 1 - 1. With 24 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. A. Ben Jeddou put the ball away for 1 - 2. Zoilo's P. Paulín put his head to a well placed ball, lifted in from the left, and scored to make the score 2 - 2 with 26 minutes showing on the scoreboard clock. A lovely run by Zoilo's G. Saltarelli left his markers for dead and should have resulted in a goal, but the finish went just wide. 34 minutes in, DJ's M. Daknılı received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. A loud groan was heard from the fans of Zoilo, as G. Saltarelli left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match. G. Nadeau took his place on the field. After 37 minutes, a long pass from DJ's M. Buist caught the defence out of position. A. Ben Jeddou collected the ball, and with the goal at his mercy calmly rolled the ball just inside the post. 2 - 3. The crowd was on its feet 37 minutes into the match, as Zoilo's S. Taddei found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 3 - 3 equaliser. The game was close to savage at times, and DJ's M. Daknılı received a second yellow card after 42 minutes; his ticket out of the game. Unfortunately for Zoilo, T. Schopf was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. D. Raßler replaced him. R. Grimaldi became the new Zoilo captain. It was 3 - 3 at the break. Zoilo enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 64 percent of possession.

After 60 minutes, the DJ coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving S. Jaroenprasert off the field. V. Ardalić took his place. The DJ captaincy was handed to F. Erdtmann. Zoilo broke through on the left 63 minutes into the game, with K. Van Hout firing in from an acute angle to give the home side a 4 - 3 lead. The visitors' P. Skrabacz was alert after a cross coming in from the left, levelling the score at 4 - 4 after 67 minutes. F. Erdtmann would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. A. Zayas Saavedra entered the game for DJ as the match clock showed 75 minutes. V. Ardalić was the new captain of DJ - handed the armband by the departing player. 76 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Zoilo to take the lead after a good cross from the right found D. Raßler alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. DJ almost scored after a swift counterattack 77 minutes into the game, but V. Ardalić put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal. They were singing the praises of S. Sarmanho 78 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 5 - 4 to Zoilo. The pressing tactics used by DJ were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Zoilo had most of the ball, with 61 percent of possession.

The most dominating Zoilo player was without a doubt S. Taddei. However, D. Raßler made a disastrous appearance. DJ's top performer was clearly A. Ben Jeddou. A. Zayas Saavedra turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 5 - 4.
