previous 3/10 next 5/10  Atletico 1 - 1 Tigres (367409561)

It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 28653 that came out to Eleven Arena. Rafael Luengo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Kurt Bittner and Roberto Castro. Atletico started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Díaz - Aladal, Gundersen, Carolina - de Valdeorras, Berends, Rivero Pastor, Sagnard, Manyoses - Sá, Vilanó.

Tigres had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. Starters: Azkuena - Violeiro, Babaredo, Güvençtürk, Alzamora - Hoffer, Díaz de Cadorniga, Topf, Osman, Bungeroth - Suontaa.

Atletico had a magnificent opportunity after 19 minutes as G. Sagnard hit the ball hard from the edge of the penalty box. However, the shot went wide. 26 minutes into the game, S. Suontaa almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. Atletico's A. de Valdeorras was shown a yellow card after 27 minutes for slicing down an opponent. It was 0 - 0 at the break. Atletico enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.

P. Sá wasn't much help defensively. His energy-consuming forward runs proved quite costly in the oppressive heat. Ç. Güvençtürk's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence. E. Díaz looked great 73 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors' G. Topf. With 81 minutes played, W. Berends of Atletico fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. P. Sá acted with superior experience when, 83 minutes into the match, he predicted a pass, intercepted it and then finished off with a goal. 1 - 0 for Atletico! C. Babaredo of Tigres was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. 88 minutes in, Tigres's S. Bungeroth received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Unfortunately for Atletico, A. de Valdeorras was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. R. Vuelvetoros replaced him. C. Hoffer finished off a quick charge from the left of the field by chipping the ball just past the home side's keeper, making the score 1 - 1 89 minutes into the match. Possession in this half belonged to Tigres, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.

The most dominating Atletico player was without a doubt G. Sagnard. T. Aladal was a disappointment, however. Most important Tigres player was R. Osman. On the other hand, M. Alzamora's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 1.
