(375936831)

28-05-2012 00.00
Clear skies welcomed the 79958 spectators who had made their way to
Demolidor Arena.
Herbert Tanke was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Stefan Alexandersson and
Noldi Blocher.
All of
São Paulo was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby.
A 5-4-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Demolidor.
Starters: García - Gortalov, Carrilho, Keesey, Gius, Radin - Beertens, Škerijanc, Pimentel, Gobbi - Lægdene.
GAVIÃO tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination.
Lineup: Dadivoso - McKenna, de Mesquita, Nazaré, Manno - Mihăilescu, Japonês, Fraga, Adão - Figo, Corman.
For their match strategy, Demolidor had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible.
GAVIÃO clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could.
After 7 minutes
G. Mihăilescu made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to
N. Figo who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 0 - 1.
With 8 minutes played, Demolidor's
R. Lægdene found an opening in the visitors' left side defence, but his shot was handled easily by the keeper.
17 minutes into the game, GAVIÃO seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a
poor level of organisation.
With the crowd on their feet chanting wildly, some great moves down the right hand side after 34 minutes gave Demolidor a wonderful opportunity to level the score, and
E. Carrilho stepped up to the challenge. 1 - 1
Against a lesser team, Demolidor could very well have succeeded with their smart indirect free kick routine after 36 minutes. A trio of passes took the ball all the way past the defenders, but by then the intended recipient was already blocked off and the keeper could make a leisurely save.
After 37 minutes GAVIÃO tried to exploit their counterattacking skills, unfortunately,
Y. Corman's shot sailed wide after his break down the right.
After 40 minutes,
R. Lægdene came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 2 - 1, giving Demolidor the lead.
It was 2 - 1 at the break.
Demolidor had most of the ball, with 75 percent of possession.
The GAVIÃO players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a
passable organisation when the game started again.
GAVIÃO needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 48 minutes
L. Dadivoso made way for
M. Baiano.
The bench was restless, and with 60 minutes passed GAVIÃO's coach gave
C. Gião the opportunity the player had been hoping for.
N. Figo reluctantly left the field.
GAVIÃO's counterattacks created a good chance for
S. Nazaré on the right after 76 minutes, but he could only look on with dismay as his strike rebounded off the crossbar.
Demolidor's
P. Gius increased the lead to 3 - 1, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 89 minutes.
Demolidor claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 70 percent.
The most dominating Demolidor player was without a doubt
A. Pimentel.
However,
H. Keesey made a disastrous appearance.
Y. Corman performed admirably for GAVIÃO.
On the other hand,
A. Adão's play was disheartening.
The match ends 3 - 1.
