previous 5/10 next 7/10  sch 0 - 1 Dortmund (377972564)

2590 spectators arrived at Schnurki Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Andi Eigl-Schreitl was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Sebastian Udrea and Perry Kense. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for sch. Lineup: Hättenschwiler - Taşçı, Polak, Coenraads - Frankenberger, Lausch, Mota, Kieni, Leimi - Cubeddu, Unger.

Dortmund tactics involved an interesting 5-2-3 combination. The following players had been chosen: Oğurata - Chrétien, Nieto-Armijo, Chintoan, Tiuri, Navarro Malta - Fredwald, Damas - Sires, Salla-aho, Malmman.

For their match strategy, Dortmund had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave I. Damas from Dortmund a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 5 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! There was concern in the stands when, at the 27 minute mark, Dortmund's F. Navarro Malta hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch. Dortmund mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 33 minutes, but M. Sires was unable to convert from short range. It was 0 - 0 at the break. sch had most of the ball, with 73 percent of possession.

After 66 minutes, sch's K. Polak fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! 67 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for sch to take the lead after a good cross from the right found S. Coenraads alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. F. Navarro Malta knocked one home from a counterattack down the right wing, making the score 0 - 1 after 68 minutes. Coming in from the right, Dortmund had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 78 minutes, but C. Chrétien's attempt to finish was easily stopped. sch claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 72 percent.

R. Frankenberger performed admirably for sch. S. Cubeddu was a disappointment, however. Most important Dortmund player was R. Nieto-Armijo. T. Salla-aho turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 1.
