previous 8/10 next 10/10  Chestelkickers 0 - 2 Hammer (379392670)

3011 spectators had found their way to Spikeground Stadium, despite the heavy rain. Eduardo Ilg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Marek Jagła and Elías Gálvez. Chestelkickers started off with a 5-3-2 lineup. Lineup: Zurschmitten - Lachaud, Seillier, Gozzi, Ender, Lugibihl - Choi, Haddad, Bernhardsson - Malcherczyk, Wästerling.

A 4-4-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Hammer. The following players took the field: Deschenes - Petrescu, Garoldi, Kariti, Väli - Ştefan, Loew, Caraman, Nenezič - Tudor.

Chestelkickers clearly had decided to counter-attack when they could. It was an obvious ambition of Hammer to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. Hammer were determined to attack on the wing and their central attempts were constantly abandoned in favour of the wings. The guests almost went up by a goal after 18 minutes when V. Tudor came through and shot from the right. The ball bounced harmlessly off the post, though. With the clock showing 27 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Chestelkickers resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by S. Choi in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. Chestelkickers's E. Seillier left the field after 30 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was J. Fivaz. With 37 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Chestelkickers resulted in a counterattack that set R. Haddad free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. After 38 minutes Hammer's G. Deschenes contracted a slight foot injury, but didn't want to leave the game. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Hammer had most of the ball, with 68 percent of possession.

After 52 minutes, Hammer put themselves up 0 - 1, as R. Caraman finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. R. Caraman increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley away after a pass from the right. 0 - 2. With 82 minutes played, the Chestelkickers coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. F. Boschung came on, D. Bernhardsson had to leave the fray. S. Choi was handed the Chestelkickers captain's armband. After 84 minutes, Chestelkickers switched M. Wästerling with A. Preisner, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Hammer, with 61 percent of the ball.

Most important Chestelkickers player was A. Preisner. On the other hand, N. Zurschmitten's play was disheartening. The most dominating Hammer player was without a doubt V. Garoldi. D. Kariti turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 2.
