Dark skies made the crowd of 28978 at
V rot mne nogi a little nervous, but the rain held off.
Marcelino Roca was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Stian Karlsen and
Flavinho Mussi.
Fans of both teams had been eagerly awaiting this
Kyiv derby and were doing their best to outshout their opponents.
Kalyta had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Tavares - Ríos, Naczas, Richtr - Renaud, Persson, Ragued, Malmbäck - Haloda, Estúñiga, Fassold.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Kiev.
They fielded: Savenko - Dymarchuk, Stoyko, Latushkin, Petrenko - Maradonenko, Prodius, Gordienko, Bezpechniy - Grynko, Salaga.
Kalyta used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings.
After 7 minutes, the home side was awarded a penalty. The visitors protested wildly but the referee was adamant.
J. Ríos easily put the ball away to give the lead to Kalyta. 1 - 0
Kalyta players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
P. Malmbäck squirmed through their central defence after 19 minutes, increasing the lead to 2 - 0.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Kalyta lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
J. Estúñiga should probably have put his team up another goal after 21 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
S. Savenko kept the visitors in the game.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Kalyta's
R. Haloda increasing the lead to 3 - 0.
Kalyta's
F. Renaud saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 33 minutes.
It was 3 - 0 at the break.
Kalyta claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 86 percent.
Cheers filled the stadium as
D. Fassold broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 4 - 0 to Kalyta.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
V. Stoyko got himself booked. The manager of Kiev was not happy.
61 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as
L. Ragued broke through, making the score 5 - 0 for Kalyta.
After 70 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
D. Fassold might have resulted in another goal for Kalyta. However,
S. Savenko made a spectacular save.
Kalyta solidified their lead at the 71 minute mark, as
L. Ragued dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 6 - 0.
Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Kalyta, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity.
A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Kalyta's
R. Haloda increasing the lead to 7 - 0.
K. Pingvinenko was called on to replace Kalyta's
M. Richtr after 75 minutes following a nasty collision.
Kalyta enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 88 percent of possession.
Most important Kalyta player was
M. Persson.
However,
K. Pingvinenko made a disastrous appearance.
I. Maradonenko performed admirably for Kiev.
M. Prodius turned in a dismal performance, however.
