previous 4/4 next 2/4  Squandrago 2 - 4 Eleven (382909315)

32688 fans braved the pouring rain at Squandrago C.F. Arena. Fredrik Lennartsson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jerker Nikkola and Frants Müürisepp. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Squandrago. The following players had been chosen: Jebolho - Pini, Klein, Kaczyński, Aizpurua - Galliners, Corder, Carcel, Gradziński - Colldeforns, Sarria.

Eleven had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Victorica - Verneda, Reverter, Držanić - Aunes, Manzano, Fuster, Azkue, Tarazona - Bernadas, Gaizaráin.

M. Pini, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. It wasn't a pretty goal, but the free kick by W. Kaczyński after 15 minutes somehow found its way past the keeper. Squandrago takes the lead, 1 - 0! 16 minutes in, Eleven's A. Bernadas received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. M. Reverter came close to levelling the score 22 minutes into the game, as he was set up with a through ball coming in from the left, but his shot hit the post. Eleven had a chance to level the score as L. Aunes suddenly found himself free in the middle of the box with only the keeper to beat, but he misjudged the finish, and only managed to hit the bar. The referee showed Eleven's A. Gaizaráin the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. R. Carcel acted foolishly after 40 minutes, giving the ball up to Eleven's A. Gaizaráin who had no trouble finding the back of the net. 1 - 1. Squandrago took the lead 41 minutes in, as A. Galliners broke through on the left and put the 2 - 1 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. Halftime score was 2 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Eleven, with 52 percent of the ball.

The visitors didn't give in and, after 54 minutes, A. Manzano got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 2 - 2. With 58 minutes played, L. Verneda of Eleven fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. The goal to make it 2 - 3 was scored by L. Verneda after 60 minutes, following an opportunistic counterattack down the middle by Eleven. With the scoreboard showing that 67 minutes had been played, Eleven nearly put themselves up another goal after A. Bernadas came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. G. Tarazona's tried to storm through the defence after 73 minutes, but M. Pini was just too fast to shake off and the rest of the defence got back to cover. With 74 minutes played, after a good run down the left, L. Colldeforns went down looking for a penalty after a challenge from the visitors' right fullback, but the referee waved play on, and later warned him for diving. 75 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 2 - 4 as A. Gaizaráin finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. By now, the players in Eleven felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave A. Manzano from Eleven a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 77 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Eleven had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.

Most important Squandrago player was L. Colldeforns. M. Pini on the other hand, had a terrible day. Eleven's top performer was clearly A. Bernadas. L. Aunes turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 4.
