previous 2/10 next 4/10  cavellano 1 - 1 Covibar (383107448)

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 17378 to highvury. Aldo Sinibaldi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Chuck O'Connor and Avihu Gutman. The derby had been the talk of Madrid all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. cavellano tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination. They fielded: Clavaguera - Druda, Wolfegg, Cabello, Kłyk, Metso - Churilov, Wijsman, Fig, Hoyos - Sol.

Covibar decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Lineup: Rowell - Minarelli, Wijnands, Niederberger - Cesiulevičius, Drobisz, Markó, Cruz, Mularski - Silva, Hivert.

The wings were the focus of most of cavellano's attacks today. V. Wijnands came close to putting the visiting team one up 4 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but U. Clavaguera managed to tip the ball to a corner. cavellano created a good opportunity to score 20 minutes into the match when S. Hoyos's hooked ball from the left created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors' defenders had a hard time clearing the ball. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave V. Silva from Covibar a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 24 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Covibar took the lead after 28 minutes making the score 0 - 1. E. Mularski placed the ball out of reach for the home side's keeper after a fine move, coming in from the left. No matter how hard he tried, S. Hoyos just couldn't get his shot past the visitors' right side defence after 33 minutes. 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. Covibar enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.

Given a free kick close to the byline, cavellano tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let S. Metso slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1 - 1, 64 minutes into the game. Making his way up the middle 70 minutes into the match, M. Wijsman almost managed to squeeze a goal past the visitors' keeper, but the alert J. Rowell blocked it to keep the score level. 78 minutes into the game, Z. Markó was a hair's breadth away from giving Covibar the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by U. Clavaguera saved the home team that time. It was a hot and sunny day, and several players seemed worn out. Maybe this was why I. Sol found an unusual amount of space for his snappy footwork. Covibar claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.

Most important cavellano player was I. Sol. U. Clavaguera on the other hand, had a terrible day. Covibar's top performer was clearly J. Cruz. J. Rowell turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 1.
