(383924764)

07-07-2012 15.30
22251 spectators had found their way to
Happy Arena, despite the heavy rain.
Magnus Jansson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Marcus Kemp and
Lutgart Albaret.
Romanovsk decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
They fielded: Marrocco - Kögl, Fin, Calamandrei - Köksal, Yağbasan, Veyrat, Ardaş, Capellshof - Salado, Cotroneo.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Celtic.
The following players had been chosen: Küçükandonyadis - Pintaudi, Agulha, Motte - Machado Mendes, Wolf, Huis in 't Veld, Teerhofinsel, Martinsson - Lastovica, Bourbon.
The wings were the focus of most of Celtic's attacks today.
Celtic's
F. Agulha was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 6 minutes.
The head of
A. Bourbon connected with a corner kick after 11 minutes, and the ball ended up with
T. Huis in 't Veld of Celtic who blasted the ball into the net, making the score 0 - 1.
I. Cotroneo charged down the left and had a wonderful opportunity to score the equaliser for Romanovsk, but the shot went well wide of the goal.
After 39 minutes,
M. Kögl made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 1 - 1.
V. Machado Mendes slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today.
Halftime score was 1 - 1.
Romanovsk had most of the ball, with 52 percent of possession.
They were singing the praises of
M. Kögl 51 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 2 - 1 to Romanovsk.
With 60 minutes played, the visitors could have drawn level after
W. Motte came through the middle, but his kick went wide.
T. Huis in 't Veld made a run for the goal 62 minutes into the game but the home team's left back managed to sort the situation out in the end.
M. Kögl really should have scored when he was chosen by fate to confront a wide open goal following a great play by
H. Köksal after a corner.
G. Marrocco's name was chanted throughout the stadium after he made a fantastic save from
A. Bourbon's shot from the left 68 minutes into the match.
Romanovsk claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
Romanovsk's best player was
S. Veyrat.
G. Marrocco turned in a dismal performance, however.
W. Wolf performed admirably for Celtic.
On the other hand,
W. Motte's play was disheartening.
The match ends 2 - 1.
