previous 4/10 next 6/10  Tillomat 4 - 2 Brandenburger (384488732)

The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 14777 had shown up at Tillomat Arena for the match. Max Daniel Feuer was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jean-Louis Bacle and Hagen Hackel-Bleibtreu. Tillomat tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination. Starters: Guinea - Stjernstedt, Kubacki - Abbott, Cigordi, Piednoir, Seia, Pawlikowski - Maćko, Voeroesmarty, Auinger.

A 5-4-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Brandenburger. Lineup: Nitz - Wasserbau, Maetze, Boudar, Palosaari, Sparwald - Vasić, Muurilainen, Pålsson, Lundhstål - Riebenstahl.

Tillomat used their ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Brandenburger were relying on their ability to counter-attack. J. Riebenstahl stunned the crowd with a brilliant counterattack from the left, giving Brandenburger the goal to make it 0 - 1. 23 minutes in, Tillomat's O. Auinger received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Unfortunately for Brandenburger, E. Wasserbau was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. Ž. Hodinka replaced him. The Brandenburger captaincy was handed to E. Muurilainen. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Tillomat, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. After 31 minutes, J. Voeroesmarty made a dash down the middle past the away team's defenders to score the goal that made it 1 - 1. Tillomat players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. Brandenburger's C. Maetze was shown a yellow card after 43 minutes for slicing down an opponent. 1 - 1 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Tillomat, with 75 percent of the ball.

As the 46 minute mark approached, the Tillomat coach decided it was time for a substitution. O. Auinger reluctantly made way for A. Gerlingen on the pitch. E. Muurilainen would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. M. Urrila entered the game for Brandenburger as the match clock showed 46 minutes. V. Nitz was the new captain of Brandenburger - handed the armband by the departing player. The guests took the lead 55 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in A. Pålsson scoring to make it 1 - 2. With 56 minutes played, J. Voeroesmarty of Tillomat fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. After a scuffle in the guests' penalty area 76 minutes into the game, the home team was awarded a penalty. T. Stjernstedt scored to make it 2 - 2. 80 minutes into the game, Tillomat wanted to bring some new energy to their game. G. Seia gave T. Schmiederredder a quick hug as he left the field. It might be a while before the fans see Tillomat's T. Stjernstedt again, after he had to leave the field in great distress at the 83 minute mark. He was replaced by R. Dzalbs. W. Kubacki always provides an aerial threat at corners, and with 86 minutes gone, he demonstrated this, outjumping his marker, then letting out an anguished howl as his powerful header went narrowly wide. Tillomat were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. R. Dzalbs caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 88 minutes. This gave Tillomat the 3 - 2 lead. That Tillomat's T. Schmiederredder has the ability of doing what no one expects him to do was shown as he ran over an opposing defender, snatched the ball and passed to D. Abbott who hit it hard into the wide open goal after 89 minutes: 4 - 2! Tillomat claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 75 percent.

Most important Tillomat player was T. Pawlikowski. R. Dzalbs on the other hand, had a terrible day. Brandenburger's best player was M. Lundhstål. However, Ž. Hodinka made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 4 - 2.
