previous 10/10 next 2/10  Colombia 4 - 3 Rasensport (384879931)

Dark skies made the crowd of 70352 at Estadio Juan Pablo Montoya a little nervous, but the rain held off. Christian Grubbmo was the appointed referee. Colombia started off with a 2-5-3 lineup. Lineup: Pareja - Burian, van Teijens - Rabajda, Schmidt von Altenstadt, Mikuta, Mazza, Grassia - Carranza, Kalkman, D'Angelo.

Rasensport tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. Starters: Crespy - Ibn-Chamid, Heidkamp, Mechenov - Fedorenko, Plata, Isoz, Rigby, Bruun - Imgrüth, Eikenberry.

Rasensport's M. Fedorenko gave the visitors a 0 - 1 lead after 3 minutes with a superb strike from the right. The visitors added to their lead 4 minutes into the game, after a sensational penalty kick by Rasensport's H. Imgrüth slid just past the home keeper. 0 - 2. After 14 minutes, speedy B. Bruun dashed past his marker, making plenty of room for the second wave of attack. However, H. Imgrüth failed to score. In a rapid move 18 minutes into the match, J. Carranza of Colombia lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked D. D'Angelo who easily hit it home to make it 1 - 2. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy! After 27 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave M. Rigby a chance to increase the lead for Rasensport, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 1 - 3. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave H. Schmidt von Altenstadt from Colombia a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 28 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! The home team's supporters got excited again when J. Carranza broke through the visitors' central defence and caught their keeper off guard, making it 2 - 3. Colombia's F. Kalkman almost tied things up with 30 minutes played after breaking through on the right, but his shot deflected off the post. Halftime score was 2 - 3. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Rasensport, with 52 percent of the ball.

With 55 minutes played, after a good run down the left, J. Carranza went down looking for a penalty after a challenge from the visitors' right fullback, but the referee waved play on, and later warned him for diving. The Colombia players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team. After 65 minutes, Colombia used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. As the game started to slip away for Colombia, the manager decided to change the tactical approach. The crowd was on its feet 75 minutes into the match, as Colombia's A. Mazza found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 3 - 3 equaliser. After 80 minutes, the Rasensport coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving M. Heidkamp off the field. G. Barkó took his place. Colombia took the lead 83 minutes into the game by 4 - 3, as J. Rabajda elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. After 83 minutes, Rasensport switched V. Mechenov with S. Jakobsen, hoping for a quick impact on the pitch. D. D'Angelo wanted to play on, but the Colombia coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 83 minutes into the game by P. Zirck. The bench was restless, and with 85 minutes passed Rasensport's coach gave O. Serdil the opportunity the player had been hoping for. P. Isoz reluctantly left the field. Unfortunately for Rasensport, A. Crespy suffered a concussion after 87 minutes and had to be taken for tests. The coach had his head in his hands after realising he could not send a replacement onto the pitch, and the team had to continue a man short. B. Bruun bravely took on the responsibilities of the departed goalkeeper. Rasensport enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 51 percent of possession.

Colombia's top performer was clearly F. Kalkman. P. Zirck on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Rasensport player was without a doubt H. Imgrüth. B. Bruun turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 4 - 3.
