previous 1/4 next 3/4  Shabiba 1 - 1 PotBlind (389258981)

A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 35848 to Fire Arena. Steffen Falck was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Czesław Ręczmin and Keld Jeslund. People from all over Rabat had joined up for the derby. Shabiba started off with a 5-2-3 lineup. Lineup: Timmers - Rincón, Röddingsmarkt, Alsdorf, Lilić, Miricã - Winterhalter, Siciliani - Whittaker, Jarmouni, Resende.

A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for PotBlind. The following players had been chosen: Huhtamäki - Tujulainen, Arbon, Vãtafu, Smed - Haddad, Mitrović, Haus, Biasizza, Abu-Sulayman - Marsal.

Shabiba were relying on their ability to counter-attack. It was an obvious ambition of PotBlind to use their ability at attacking on the flanks. 25 minutes into the game, S. Haddad was a hair's breadth away from giving PotBlind the lead with a shot from over on the left. A prompt block by K. Timmers saved the home team that time. It was obvious that PotBlind had instructions to attack on the wings instead of in the middle. 0 - 0 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by PotBlind, with 56 percent of the ball.

Shabiba were great at switching from defence to attack, and after 71 minutes, V. Rincón swept through the middle on a counterattack, making the score 1 - 0. Shabiba's R. Whittaker was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 72 minutes. The sun seemed to put M. Marsal in a great mood, and he showed off his technical skills all match long. After 77 minutes, the defensive line of Shabiba created a counterattack through the middle that gave R. Whittaker a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave S. Haddad from PotBlind a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 79 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Coming in from the right, Shabiba had a good opportunity to convert on a counterattack after 84 minutes, but R. Whittaker's attempt to finish was easily stopped. The referee was not popular with the home supporters after he awarded PotBlind a controversial penalty after 85 minutes. S. Haddad made no mistake, levelling the score at 1 - 1. PotBlind had most of the ball, with 60 percent of possession.

Shabiba's top performer was clearly G. Alsdorf. K. Timmers on the other hand, had a terrible day. M. Marsal performed admirably for PotBlind. P. Huhtamäki turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 1 - 1.
