previous 1/4 next 3/4  Flower 2 - 5 Wemels (390242004)

34175 fans braved the pouring rain at De Bloempot. Mikael Nilsson was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Boldizsár Bíró and Zbigniew Hubicki. Flower had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Starters: Noé - Bendik, Dijkhuis, de Hoogh - Altınöz, Huygen, Liwoch, Berendsen, Noyan - Justesen, Hammer.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Wemels. The following players took the field: Hoogervorst - Olsen, Hering, van Poelgeest - Drost, van Dorst, Rijers, Delonge, Rook - de Wael, Koops.

The cannonball from 35 metres by T. Noyan of Flower was an impressive sight, but didn't make it into the net. After 6 minutes, Wemels put themselves up 0 - 1, as J. Koops finished off a strike from the left with a real cannonball of a shot. R. Rijers didn't let the weather get him down and made some great moves on the pitch in spite of the rain. Flower's A. Noé had to watch the rest of the game from the sidelines, after twisting his ankle with 8 minutes having been played. M. Helder was the replacement. W. Rook spent most of the time in a heap on the ground today, his normally rapid movement hindered by the slippery pitch. H. Olsen of Wemels took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 19 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2. With 25 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed H. Olsen of Wemels to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 3. Wemels increased their lead after 29 minutes when S. de Wael broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 4, much to the home crowd's dismay. After this, you could see that the players of Wemels were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. 0 - 4 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Flower, with 53 percent of the ball.

Flower's F. Berendsen got the home crowd going when he finished off a left wing charge, reducing the away team's lead to 1 - 4. Wemels's R. Hering was shown a yellow card after 54 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 81 minutes, Wemels did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker, S. de Wael was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 5. After 82 minutes Ö. Altınöz made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to L. Hammer who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 2 - 5. Possession in this half belonged to Flower, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.

Flower's top performer was clearly L. Hammer. M. Helder was a disappointment, however. Wemels's best player was S. de Wael. W. Rook turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 2 - 5.
