previous 3/4 next 1/4  Opwetten 0 - 8 IJsselstein (390248780)

34667 spectators had found their way to Opwetley Stadium, despite the heavy rain. Jörgen Vintererberg was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Arto Tuomela and Raúl Matamoros. Opwetten decided to use a 5-4-1 set up. The following players had been chosen: Grò - de Waal, Boekhorst, Notenboom, Fasseur, Scheepbouwer - de Vreede, Rekonen, Kruize, Weltman - Cano.

IJsselstein tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination. Starters: Teitsma - Alleyn, Hogerwerf, den Ouden, van Kooten, Cserkuti - Hallermarsch, de Hooge, Lepolder, Err - Sillevis.

IJsselstein took a creative approach on the field. J. Hogerwerf sailed high above the opponents as he headed in a corner kick from T. Hallermarsch after 4 minutes of play, making the score 0 - 1. The home crowd cheered when, after 10 minutes, J. Hogerwerf's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. 11 minutes in, Opwetten's E. Scheepbouwer received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. With 18 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience, E. Boekhorst needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. N. Err of IJsselstein took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 20 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 2. N. Err, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass. 33 minutes into the game, Opwetten had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to weak. 34 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 0 - 3 as T. Hallermarsch finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. T. Hallermarsch received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 42 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 4. The IJsselstein fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. By now, the players in IJsselstein felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. Halftime score was 0 - 4. Possession in this half belonged to IJsselstein, who controlled the ball 77 percent of the time.

The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that Opwetten had passable organisation. IJsselstein increased their lead after 60 minutes when T. Lepolder broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 5, much to the home crowd's dismay. T. Hallermarsch's lightning pace was too much for E. Scheepbouwer who could only look on as the IJsselstein player blasted one home. 0 - 6. By then T. Hallermarsch had scored three goals - a hat trick! T. Hallermarsch was, after 64 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper R. Grò made the save. P. Sillevis left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 70 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. L. Buyruk was the replacement. 76 minutes into the game, IJsselstein were awarded a penalty and T. Hallermarsch was able to increase the visitors' lead to 0 - 7 rolling the ball in by the right post. With 82 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed T. Lepolder of IJsselstein to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 8. 84 minutes into the game, Opwetten seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a passable level of organisation. IJsselstein enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 84 percent of possession.

The most dominating Opwetten player was without a doubt P. Cano. P. Notenboom was a disappointment, however. IJsselstein's top performer was clearly O. Teitsma. However, J. Hogerwerf made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 0 - 8.
