16535 spectators arrived at
Mainstream Stadium, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Artur Torres Cerqueira was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Danu Yusuf and
Gernot Riml.
Mainstream decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Ishikawa - Godet, Wopenka, Fox - Olivera, Yañez, De Braeckeleer, Camenisch, Berlandi - Ghibaudo, Magdiná.
Athletic started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Huizingh - Aguilar, Scholl, Rajatammi - Vožňák, Cosí, Keersse, Celoca, Rentto - Mandato, Burón.
After 11 minutes of play,
A. Fox gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right.
An equalising goal seemed certain after 16 minutes when
T. Rajatammi attacked down the left wing, but
R. Ishikawa just managed to make a save to keep the ball out of the net.
The visitors almost came back with an equaliser 23 minutes into the match after a good combination down the middle, but when
J. Burón tried to finish the attack, he couldn't deliver the shot hard enough to seriously challenge the keeper.
With 24 minutes played,
F. De Braeckeleer could have brought this one home for Mainstream as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high.
Some brilliant football from the visitors' right wing resulted in a levelling of the score as Athletic's
M. Scholl put the ball in the onion bag after 28 minutes to make it 1 - 1.
The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 1.
Possession in this half belonged to Athletic, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.
Mainstream made it 2 - 1 as
J. Wopenka got a touch to the floated corner kick and flicked the ball to
J. Yañez who whipped a low drive in off the far post.
Some things can only be learned through experience, and
J. Cosí should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Mainstream a goal with 63 minutes of the match played.
The visitors didn't give in and, after 82 minutes,
J. Burón got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 2 - 2.
Athletic's
M. Scholl gave the visitors a 2 - 3 lead after 84 minutes with a superb strike from the right.
Athletic's
J. Burón made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 86 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line.
K. Tullén was called on to replace Mainstream's
A. Fox after 87 minutes following a nasty collision.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Athletic, with 59 percent of the ball.
Most important Mainstream player was
M. Ghibaudo.
R. Ishikawa turned in a dismal performance, however.
Athletic's top performer was clearly
H. Keersse.
M. Scholl on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 2 - 3.
