previous 4/10 next 6/10  Beavers 1 - 8 Olympique (391463891)

Due to an all-day shower, 31679 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Big Beaver Dam. Fabian Renthe-Fink was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gabriel Camões and Teddy Pierre. A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Beavers. The following players took the field: Lavois - Bousquet, Güneş - Balmón, Frahm, Hirschheydt, Long, Barbot - Clemmensen, Dinică, Učeň.

Olympique started off with a 4-5-1 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Mollov - Bootz, Lazăr, Nook, D'Antoni - Lebert, Buseck, Stefan, Karėniauskas, Martínez Blas - Gobato.

Beavers tried to focus their attacks down the middle. Today, Olympique's strategy involved concentrating on the flanks for their attacks. Beavers's C. Dinică skillfully knocked a pass over the top after 3 minutes, and that was received by J. Učeň who just managed to slot it past the opposing goalkeeper for 1 - 0. The crowd was silenced 9 minutes into the match as the visiting team's L. Lebert came in from the left, levelling the score to 1 - 1. Beavers's S. Long was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 15 minutes. Olympique's D. Gobato managed to lose the defenders as he advanced down the right wing and scored, putting the visitors ahead after 18 minutes. 1 - 2. With 26 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed A. Nook of Olympique to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 3. By now, the players in Olympique felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward. W. Buseck of Olympique took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 28 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 1 - 4. Olympique had a good opportunity to attack in the middle, but remembered their instructions to focus on wing attacks instead. Some fine movement on the left led to a Olympique goal after 37 minutes, making it 1 - 5. G. Karėniauskas was noted down as the scorer. It was 1 - 5 at the break. Olympique had most of the ball, with 71 percent of possession.

Beavers players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead. E. Clemmensen challenged the visitors' central defence eagerly, producing a good chance 60 minutes into the game as he went for a through ball. But, as so many times before, the guests' defensive efforts got the best of it. A. Nook wanted to play on, but the Olympique coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 65 minutes into the game by A. Zähner. G. Karėniauskas left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 70 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. M. Chandra was the replacement. W. Buseck became the new Olympique captain. The Olympique players could smell victory in the air. D. Gobato wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for E. Hermes after 70 minutes. E. Hermes came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over R. Lavois but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. T. Lazăr received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 82 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 1 - 6. The Olympique fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. 85 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 7 as E. Hermes finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. A drive down the left side allowed L. Lebert to get in close and score another goal for Olympique after 87 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 8. Possession in this half belonged to Olympique, who controlled the ball 76 percent of the time.

The most dominating Beavers player was without a doubt S. Long. R. Lavois turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Olympique player was P. D'Antoni. I. Mollov on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 8.
