Selkirk 8 - 2 Gliders
(391476125)

05-08-2012 23.00
Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 9823 to
Selkirk Arena.
Juan Alberto Raposo was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Marcus Håkansson and
Josef Nachbaur.
Selkirk decided to use a 4-4-2 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Lavoie - Moses, Rossa, ó Cuilinn, Muldoon - Douglas, Swanson, McInnish, Keluskar - Hoyle, Larcombe.
Gliders had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Raymond - Micek, Thériault, Miller, Matseyko - Greer, Gold, Barry, Saint-Martin - Kearney, Roland.
24 minutes into the match and the home team took a 1 - 0 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for Selkirk was
M. ó Cuilinn.
K. Gold of Gliders seemed to be floating in the air as he elegantly headed in to make the score 1 - 1 after a corner kick that was nicely executed by
T. Micek.
Selkirk fans held their breath as
R. Moses scampered down the left side. He successfully avoided all challenges and cracked home the shot for 2 - 1!
Selkirk solidified their lead at the 34 minute mark, as
E. McInnish dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 1.
The players of Selkirk now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Selkirk to 4 - 1 as
J. Douglas finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
4 - 1 was the score after the first half.
Selkirk claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 73 percent.
Selkirk's
R. Hoyle had an excellent opportunity after 51 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles!
With 52 minutes played, Selkirk put themselves up 5 - 1 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to
A. Larcombe, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
M. Keluskar squirmed through their central defence after 54 minutes, increasing the lead to 6 - 1.
After 61 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
A. Swanson gave the Selkirk supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 7 - 1.
S. Saint-Martin's lightning pace was too much for
R. Moses who could only look on as the Gliders player blasted one home. 7 - 2.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 68 minutes, Selkirk did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
R. Hoyle was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 8 - 2.
Selkirk enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 76 percent of possession.
S. Muldoon performed admirably for Selkirk.
On the other hand,
M. Lavoie's play was disheartening.
The most dominating Gliders player was without a doubt
L. Roland.
L. Raymond was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 8 - 2.
