previous 3/4 next 1/4  Canevin 4 - 4 Hennes (392023527)

A scorching day at Crusader Arena, where 55347 spectators were in place for today's match. Miticã Porumbel was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Viorel Chiriacescu and Niklaus Reinhold. Canevin had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Lineup: Berthold - Ngidi, Andresen, Kamocsai - Gregurec, Jerez, Candaner, Aamodt - Düben, Gigante, Ionescu.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Hennes. The following players had been chosen: de Moll - Baerselman, Lemberger, Deutsch - Baux, Calisti, Olofsson, Seal, Isaacs - Galarreta, Masson.

After 17 minutes, J. Jerez came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 - 0, giving Canevin the lead. Canevin's M. Ionescu got himself booked for a foul. A loud groan was heard from the fans of Hennes, as Ö. Olofsson left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match. R. Ölmez took his place on the field. C. Candaner neatly controlled the ball after a short corner, and knocked it on to F. Gigante who had the whole net open before him, but only managed to hit the post. B. Baerselman finished off a quick charge from the left of the field by chipping the ball just past the home side's keeper, making the score 1 - 1 34 minutes into the match. 41 minutes into the game, A. Calisti had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide. The referee showed Canevin's H. Andresen the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Hennes were forced into a substitution as M. Masson couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing F. Dick to come in off the bench. With 43 minutes played S. Gregurec almost gave the home side the lead with an unexpected free kick set up, but the visitors' F. de Moll was onto it, grabbing the would be breakthrough ball. M. Ionescu's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some breathtaking tricks that bamboozled the defence. Slack defending gave Canevin a chance to take the lead with 44 minutes played, but F. Gigante's cross from the left flank was fumbled in front of the goal and easily dealt with by the opposition. It was 1 - 1 at the break. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Canevin, with 56 percent of the ball.

Some great play up the middle by Canevin led to a chance for S. Gregurec to score after 47 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. F. Gigante would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. P. Gurendes entered the game for Canevin as the match clock showed 60 minutes. Canevin took the lead 66 minutes into the game by 2 - 1, as C. Candaner elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. After 66 minutes, Hennes used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach. Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the Hennes manager used a brief break in play after 67 minutes to give the players new directives. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. A. Düben squirmed through their central defence after 71 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 1. D. Baux's speed was clear to see after 77 minutes, as he darted down the wing and released E. Galarreta who placed the ball into the back of the net to make the score 3 - 2. After 82 minutes, A. Calisti sent the corner kick right to P. Lemberger who headed it sharply past the keeper. 3 - 3! The home side put themselves ahead 4 - 3 after 83 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from R. Ngidi, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. The home team will be cursing E. Galarreta for weeks; he finished off a great pass from the left, knocking it past the keeper without a problem. The match was level at 4 - 4 after 84 minutes. Many thought A. Düben ought to have been awarded a penalty 85 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around F. de Moll after a determined run through the middle. Canevin enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 52 percent of possession.

Canevin's top performer was clearly M. Ionescu. However, C. Berthold made a disastrous appearance. Hennes's best player was E. Galarreta. R. Ölmez on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 4 - 4.
