Clouds darkened the skies at
Bei den Thermopylen as 2498 spectators turned up for the match.
Pascale Remion was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Alaaddin Güçal and
Raphael Felchlin.
A 2-5-3 alignment was the formation of choice for Greek.
They fielded: Arepiev - Rökker, Zamir - Verduyn, Schoeters, Teso, Röver, Decarli - Dolfin, Massidda, Alavoine.
NOBA tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
Lineup: Cywiński - Malagarriga, Lacalle, Jacher - Niekowiecki, Cichy, Sarga, Gavrankapetanović, Krajewski - Wojcieszek, Launia.
After some beautiful movement down the left wing,
F. Alavoine scored for Greek putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 7 minutes.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
P. Dolfin from Greek a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 16 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
27 minutes were showing on the scoreboard when Greek's
P. Dolfin received his second yellow card and was sent off.
Greek's
H. Schoeters increased the lead to 2 - 0, after he saw his shot go between the legs of the advancing goalkeeper following some good play down the right wing after 29 minutes.
By now, the players in Greek felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
39 minutes in, Greek appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only
solid.
Halftime score was 2 - 0.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Greek, with 55 percent of the ball.
During the break, Greek's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to
solid organisation.
NOBA's
V. Malagarriga was shown a yellow card after 70 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
A. Massidda's knee will be throbbing for days, but thankfully for Greek, he bravely continued in the match.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Greek to 3 - 0 as
H. Schoeters finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
Some things can only be learned through experience, and
J. Jacher should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting Greek a goal with 77 minutes of the match played.
Greek increased the lead as
M. Röver struck to make the score 4 - 0 after an attack from the left left him unmarked in front of the keeper.
The referee showed NOBA's
F. Gavrankapetanović the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Greek's
E. Zamir went down after a savage challenge, but could continue playing after some medical attention.
Greek put themselves up 5 - 0 when
H. Verduyn broke through on the right, leaving the entire defence trailing in his wake.
Greek claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.
A. Massidda performed admirably for Greek.
E. Zamir on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Most important NOBA player was
J. Sarga.
Ł. Krajewski was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 5 - 0.
