46199 spectators arrived at
Centralnij Stadion Lokomotiv, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Kaarlo Nieminen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Hans Haedicke and
Ludwig Licari.
Lokomotiv decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Frăsineanu - Šitina, Miguel Gonçalves, Di Gioia, Rosenstein - Lauridsen, Hirsfelds, Rodik, Kibalchich, McClure - Bruno.
Daugava had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
Lineup: Čākurs - Quère, İlhamzadə, Salinas - Mierzwa, Quercia, Ferrandis, Tatti, Balle Larsen - Estorff, Flores de Lizaur.
C. Di Gioia of Lokomotiv received a yellow card after 17 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
A mistake by the home side's central defence after 18 minutes allowed
A. Flores de Lizaur to score for Daugava. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1.
Daugava came close to extending their lead as
P. Estorff delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 24 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
P. Estorff from Daugava a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 26 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
0 - 1 was the halftime score.
Lokomotiv claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 59 percent.
With 50 minutes gone, Daugava had a free kick in a decent position. Despite this being a great chance for a shot, they tried a cheeky move intended to bypass the defence. However,
D. Ferrandis did not manage to connect with it cleanly and the ball went out.
J. Balle Larsen wanted to play on, but the Daugava coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 56 minutes into the game by
T. Diaconu.
61 minutes into the game,
F. Rodik came close to levelling the score with a dangerous shot from the centre of the area that went just over the bar.
Lokomotiv's
C. Bruno got himself booked for a foul.
After 67 minutes of play,
N. Kibalchich evened things up for Lokomotiv with an impressive goal coming up the middle. 1 - 1.
Lokomotiv were very close to putting themselves one up after 70 minutes as
C. Di Gioia got through on the left, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide.
Under heavy pressure after 74 minutes, the inexperienced Lokomotiv struggled to maintain their level of play.
Lokomotiv enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 62 percent of possession.
As neither team had managed to win, extra time was called.
The Lokomotiv players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a
solid organisation when the game started again.
As the 93 minute mark approached, the Daugava coach decided it was time for a substitution.
D. Ferrandis reluctantly made way for
M. Calahorra on the pitch.
The visiting
T. Diaconu was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 94 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 1 - 2 was the score.
This put an end to extra time, making Daugava the winners.
Lokomotiv's best player was
C. Bruno.
On the other hand,
O. McClure's play was disheartening.
The most dominating Daugava player was without a doubt
P. Estorff.
L. Čākurs on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 1 - 2.
