A scorching day at
mirakel arena, where 37963 spectators were in place for today's match.
Sebastian Schätzler was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Merijn van der Hoeven and
Giorgio Cannone.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for langeteen.
The following players took the field: Antoniani - Martinetti, Gonzáles, Rességuier - Cardoso Simões, Svanblad, Hellbo, Svensson, Castaneo - Van Weydeveldt, Mercier.
Sprint decided to use a 4-5-1 set up.
The following players had been chosen: Hašek - von Moy, Tloome, Stępkowski, Slot - Matos, Haraldsson, Yskout, Malak, Casella - Dannen.
Sprint were mostly trying to use their skill at attacking on the flanks.
Always quick and a menace to his opponents,
M. Matos was very close to getting through after 26 minutes, but he could only put the ball into the keeper's arms.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 35 minutes, Sprint did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
A. Yskout was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 0 - 1.
0 - 1 was the halftime score.
Sprint claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
The intense heat forced
M. Matos into making some errors because he couldn't seem to keep up with the others.
An amazing free kick flew past the home keeper 57 minutes into the match, putting Sprint ahead 0 - 2.
M. Stępkowski was the scorer.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
G. von Moy from Sprint a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 65 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
The Sprint players could smell victory in the air.
S. Haraldsson wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for
L. Alexiev after 70 minutes.
M. Stępkowski left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 71 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead.
M. Elliot was the replacement.
At 76 minutes into the game, langeteen's
S. Cardoso Simões deftly knocked the ball home after an impressive run down the left, reducing the visitors' lead to 1 - 2.
The sunny day didn't make things easy for
P. Svensson who didn't seem his usual powerful self on the pitch.
Sprint increased their lead after 82 minutes when
W. Malak broke through on the right, upping the score to 1 - 3, much to the home crowd's dismay.
83 minutes in, langeteen's
P. Svensson received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
84 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 4 as
L. Alexiev finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick.
The coach of Sprint was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 84 minutes,
F. Hardenbol came on for
S. Tloome.
By now, the players in Sprint felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Sprint, with 60 percent of the ball.
langeteen's top performer was clearly
T. Hellbo.
P. Svensson on the other hand, had a terrible day.
Sprint's best player was
W. Malak.
On the other hand,
F. Hardenbol's play was disheartening.
The match ends 1 - 4.
