25-07-2012 16.45
It had rained all day, but 52785 hardy fans still made it out to
Stamford Bridge.
Kornelius Schellenberger was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Reinoud Dahlhaus and
Krzysztof Krysik.
Chelsea had chosen a strategic 2-5-3 formation.
The following players had been chosen: Erarrizaga - Viheriälehto, Goorhuis - Kjeldahl, Voccoli, Appel, Medrano Gil, Mitrović - Marschhaeuser, Yatim, De Marco.
Ettaraji tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination.
The following players took the field: Raddaoui - Giuliato, Jensen, Leibinger - Strihić, Morales, Kołos, bin Saad - Azizi, Souayah, Mnefig.
Some great play up the middle by Chelsea led to a chance for
J. Appel to score after 8 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
V. Strihić, who often relies on his speed, had a rotten day on the drenched grass.
After some beautiful movement down the left wing,
S. Yatim scored for Chelsea putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 16 minutes.
After 23 minutes, Chelsea's
M. Mitrović found the back of the goal with a beautiful free kick. 2 - 0.
Chelsea solidified their lead at the 31 minute mark, as
M. Mitrović dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 0.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Chelsea lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
A speedy charge from the left side of the field increased the lead of Chelsea to 4 - 0 as
M. Viheriälehto finished it off competently, firing in from an acute angle.
4 - 0 was the halftime score.
Chelsea claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 66 percent.
In the lead, Chelsea adjusted their style of play with 60 minutes gone.
The Chelsea coach was visibly pleased with the score so far, but still ordered a few tactical changes 60 minutes into the game.
After a short break after 60 minutes, Chelsea seemed to change their tactical approach a bit.
Having been awarded a free kick in an awkward position after 63 minutes, Chelsea did not go for a shot but instead fired the ball hard into the 6 yard box. After a brief tussle with his marker,
U. Marschhaeuser was able to power the ball past the keeper to make the score 5 - 0.
The referee showed Chelsea's
M. De Marco the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
A loud groan was heard from the fans of Ettaraji, as
W. Souayah left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match.
Z. Nasra took his place on the field.
T. Kjeldahl could have increased the lead after 73 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park.
Chelsea had most of the ball, with 67 percent of possession.
Chelsea's best player was
D. Voccoli.
T. Kjeldahl turned in a dismal performance, however.
Z. Nasra performed admirably for Ettaraji.
M. Raddaoui was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 5 - 0.
