previous 10/10 next 2/10  Mandii 1 - 8 Sonic (394032520)

Clear skies welcomed the 636 spectators who had made their way to La Olla Azulgrana. Pierre-Antoine Lavallee was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Fabian Rössing and Lovro Car. A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Mandii. The following players took the field: Sinković - Cividino, Bravo, Denton - Trujillo, Herrera, Zacur, Poveda, Vera y Aragón - Faúndez, Sosa Pasmor.

Sonic started off with a 4-5-1 lineup. Starters: Martinsen - Arntsen, Sønnichsen, Bakke, Fredriksson - Hansen, Liessens, Lia, Fàbrega, Evensen - Christensen.

5 minutes into the game, Mandii seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a solid level of organisation. Down the middle came A. Fàbrega, making a fantastic play that nearly had Sonic take the lead after 10 minutes, but Z. Sinković preserved the tie. The visiting I. Liessens was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 15 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. 26 minutes into the game, G. Poveda had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came O. Nicolicchia. L. Evensen's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and 33 minutes into the match was no different as he broke free of his man to send a delightful through ball to L. Christensen who knocked it in for Sonic. 0 - 2! Confident in their lead, Sonic's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. The home crowd cheered when, after 37 minutes, M. Hansen's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. Mandii refused to be intimidated and, breaking through the middle, G. Denton managed to slip the ball home for 1 - 2. 40 minutes in, Mandii appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only solid. Some fine movement on the left led to a Sonic goal after 41 minutes, making it 1 - 3. J. Lia was noted down as the scorer. Halftime score was 1 - 3. Sonic claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 76 percent.

A review of the gameplan helped Mandii get back to a solid organisation when the referee blew his whistle again. After 48 minutes, Sonic's L. Christensen burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 4. Sonic's A. Bakke was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 54 minutes. L. Christensen left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 60 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. T. Horn was the replacement. J. Fredriksson wanted to play on, but the Sonic coach had other ideas, and he was replaced 62 minutes into the game by B. Simonsen. After 67 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave M. Hansen a chance to increase the lead for Sonic, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 1 - 5. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave E. Bravo from Mandii a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 80 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Sonic were forced into a substitution as M. Arntsen couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing T. Mathiasson to come in off the bench. A. Herrera of Mandii was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. 84 minutes into the game, Mandii seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to passable. G. Denton was suffering from cramp and had difficulty keeping up as the opposition pushed forward. T. Horn had no problems getting through and hit home to make the score 1 - 6. A. Fàbrega received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 88 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 1 - 7. The Sonic fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. Sonic increased their lead after 89 minutes when A. Bakke broke through on the right, upping the score to 1 - 8, much to the home crowd's dismay. Sonic had most of the ball, with 80 percent of possession.

Mandii's top performer was clearly A. Faúndez. However, J. Zacur made a disastrous appearance. The most dominating Sonic player was without a doubt M. Hansen. N. Sønnichsen on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 8.
