Berger 7 - 0 Ferrum
(117048691)

05-05-2007 18.00
Due to an all-day shower, 21558 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at
FC Berger Arena.
Eugenio Pichon was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Charles Duncan and
Niv Shtengel.
Berger started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
The following players took the field: Zucali - Obendorfer, Fler, Benedetter - Rust, Leykauf, Branda, Purucker, Knauthe - Kocsis, Lambauer.
Ferrum tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Svensson - Wittmer, Baldock, Rüdiger - Sirks-Wilking, Baetzel, Nogler, van der Krogt - Vollmer, Stubenvoll, Fengels.
Berger took the lead 20 minutes in, as
A. Leykauf broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper.
Cheers filled the stadium as
G. Purucker broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Berger.
After 27 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and
G. Purucker gave the Berger supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 0.
At this point, it was obvious that the players of Berger lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented.
Berger solidified their lead at the 42 minute mark, as
E. Knauthe dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 4 - 0.
Berger's
H. Branda had an excellent opportunity after 43 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles!
4 - 0 was the halftime score.
Berger had most of the ball, with 66 percent of possession.
H. Branda behaved like an inexperienced youth player after 51 minutes as he gave the ball away to
M. Sirks-Wilking. Lucky for him though, there was no goal.
Berger managed to extend their lead to 5 - 0 when
G. Purucker cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper.
That was his third goal of the match - a hat trick for
G. Purucker.
Berger's
G. Purucker was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 67 minutes.
A. Kocsis should probably have put his team up another goal after 73 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
P. Svensson kept the visitors in the game.
Things were deteriorating for the away team as Berger scored another to make it 6 - 0 after a left side attack resulted in a goal for
H. Branda after 79 minutes.
The muddy pitch made the game a gritty affair, which seemed to suit
E. Benedetter just fine.
U. Fler struck a 30 metre free kick home 84 minutes into the match. 7 - 0 for the home team.
H. Branda of Berger received a yellow card after 85 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Berger, with 62 percent of the ball.
The most dominating Berger player was without a doubt
E. Benedetter.
H. Branda on the other hand, had a terrible day.
A. Vollmer performed admirably for Ferrum.
B. Wittmer was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 7 - 0.
