20-05-2009 11.00
Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 15714 to
Duff Stadium.
Eduardo Lázaro was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Gilles Masset and
Konstantin Alvarado de Schroeder.
A 4-5-1 alignment was the formation of choice for Duff.
The following players had been chosen: Arzápalo - Osta, Kortzfleisch, Botter, Lopilato - Mumenthaler, Fischer, Kolari, Scholtzhauer, Göttke - Schluep.
Ottis had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation.
The following players took the field: Rappaport - Rosiński, Kaloutas, Jönsson - Hocquard, Porter, Carswell, Dube, Mitei - Rigters, Coste.
The strategy for Duff was to use their ability to press.
The visiting
A. Jönsson was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 2 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score.
With 3 minutes played,
P. Osta of Duff fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving.
The pressing tactics used by Duff were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times.
The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1.
Possession in this half belonged to Duff, who controlled the ball 56 percent of the time.
The crowd was amused as
K. Göttke of Duff used a few interesting tricks and dribbles to get into the penalty box. The finish by
T. Schluep wasn't very amusing, however, as the ball flew way over the crossbar.
L. Coste was first to reach a ball launched long through the center from Ottis's defence 53 minutes into the game. He managed to keep his cool and beat the goalkeeper to make the score 0 - 2.
After this, you could see that the players of Ottis were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals.
79 minutes into the game, Duff seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to
solid.
After the ball was lifted in from the left,
A. Carswell was on his own in the home side's penalty area and should have scored after 84 minutes, but missed, probably due to lack of concentration.
P. Osta of Duff got sent off for kicking the ball after the whistle, a completely uncalled for move, earning him his second yellow card of the game.
With the scoreboard showing that 87 minutes had been played, Ottis nearly put themselves up another goal after
L. Coste came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
Had it not been for one of the home defenders,
A. Carswell would have put Ottis up another goal 88 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing.
Duff had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.
Duff's top performer was clearly
J. Fischer.
T. Schluep turned in a dismal performance, however.
Most important Ottis player was
L. Coste.
However,
P. Hocquard made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 0 - 2.
