(250389453)

16-09-2009 19.00
The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 26100 had shown up at
Kenilworth Road for the match.
Jakub Wincek was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Alberto Giménez Zapiola and
Luitbert Stumpfeld.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Volvian.
Lineup: Söderström - Ruiz, Tarasek, Nicoletta - Fenu, Avramov, Glier, Joulin, Cau - Pipek, Oskarsson.
BlåVitt tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
The following players had been chosen: Menashe - Soppa, Kos, Vilk - Nesslind, Dimitrov, Osila, Berlijn, Antonucci - Mafileo, Wishaber.
Volvian mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle.
Volvian's
P. Joulin tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but couldn't get past the visitors' defenders.
Volvian's
A. Avramov startled
A. Cau with an unexpected pass. Unfortunately, the receiver was too stunned by the play to convert the perfect setup into a goal.
Many thought
V. Oskarsson ought to have been awarded a penalty 12 minutes into the game, as he went down trying to dribble around
G. Menashe after a determined run through the middle.
It was 0 - 0 at the break.
Volvian enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.
The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to
V. Oskarsson, but the Volvian player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0!
Volvian's
L. Ruiz placed the ball right at his teammate's feet after a corner, but
A. Glier couldn't finish.
Some brilliant football from the visitors' right wing resulted in a levelling of the score as BlåVitt's
L. Berlijn put the ball in the onion bag after 64 minutes to make it 1 - 1.
The referee showed BlåVitt's
F. Wishaber the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Volvian were forced into a substitution as
A. Fenu couldn't continue due to some rough treatment, forcing
P. Andersson to come in off the bench.
Volvian's
A. Avramov showed off his trademark ability to do the unexpected with a tricky pass after 75 minutes. Unfortunately,
A. Cau was startled by the play and wasn't able to control the finish.
They were singing the praises of
M. Nicoletta 85 minutes into the match after his speculative chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors' keeper to make the score 2 - 1 to Volvian.
After several obvious shirt pulling incidents,
O. Osila got himself booked. The manager of BlåVitt was not happy.
The visitors kept the pressure on to tie the game when, after 88 minutes,
S. Dimitrov broke through the centre and found himself alone with the keeper.
P. Söderström made a great block, though.
S. Mafileo of BlåVitt was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle.
After 89 minutes Volvian's
M. Nicoletta limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue.
Volvian claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 54 percent.
Volvian's best player was
V. Oskarsson.
P. Andersson was a disappointment, however.
The most dominating BlåVitt player was without a doubt
G. Menashe.
However,
M. Antonucci made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 2 - 1.
