previous 3/7 next 5/7  Sandpipers 0 - 4 Ceylon (250847345)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 7000 to Shaviyani Arena. Franciszek Komoder was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Māris Liepa and Noah Eilders. Sandpipers had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Shihab - Adnan, Hussain, Ali, Ibrahim - Ghudari, Hasan, Jameel, Ibn-Bilal - Mahudhee, Fazlee.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Ceylon. They fielded: Hanzl - Ali, Gayoom, Chinnakali - Gürgül, Nicola, Mayor, Delgrange, Pelosi - Cabañas, Ghani.

A mistake by the home side's central defence after 13 minutes allowed R. Pelosi to score for Ceylon. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1. R. Pelosi received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 15 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 2. The Ceylon fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. The referee signalled a penalty 32 minutes into the game following an offence which looked like it was outside the box. R. Delgrange knocked it home to make the score 0 - 3. 0 - 3 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Ceylon, with 81 percent of the ball.

S. Mayor was, after 56 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but the home side's keeper A. Shihab made the save. With 57 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed L. Cabañas of Ceylon to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 4. After this, you could see that the players of Ceylon were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. Possession in this half belonged to Ceylon, who controlled the ball 86 percent of the time.

The most dominating Sandpipers player was without a doubt E. Ibrahim. I. Mahudhee on the other hand, had a terrible day. Ceylon's best player was R. Delgrange. B. Gürgül turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 4.
