09-12-2009 14.00
2480 spectators had come to
Kapr Polni Brno Arena this cloudy day.
Taulant Boja was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Alberto Vivas and
Jonathan Risi.
A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Polni.
Starters: Dumitru - Škrob, Ekrt, Opat - Vrtílek, Vejnar, Škůrek, Udatný, Krajcar - Dočekal, Vyškovský.
Derani had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation.
They fielded: Stefanović - Voloshin, Alméras, Marinkov - Stefanović, Højbjerg, Hamalainen, Boogers - Ulfing, Max, Chirilescu.
As the 5 minute mark approached, the Polni coach decided it was time for a substitution.
P. Krajcar reluctantly made way for
A. Oca on the pitch.
After 5 minutes, the Polni coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
B. Vyškovský off the field.
R. Švarc took his place.
10 minutes into the game, Polni wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
E. Vrtílek gave
M. Mettomäki a quick hug as he left the field.
After 14 minutes of play,
A. Oca gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right.
Polni's
R. Dočekal saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 22 minutes.
28 minutes into the game, Polni had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to
wretched.
Things were going to get worse for the visitors.
R. Švarc squirmed through their central defence after 29 minutes, increasing the lead to 2 - 0.
The players of Polni now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle.
2 - 0 was the halftime score.
Polni enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 71 percent of possession.
A review of the gameplan helped Polni get back to a
passable organisation when the referee blew his whistle again.
After 71 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by
R. Švarc might have resulted in another goal for Polni. However,
M. Stefanović made a spectacular save.
M. Udatný of Polni received a yellow card after 73 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour.
83 minutes in, Derani's
B. Alméras received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Polni's
M. Mettomäki startled
R. Dočekal with an unexpected pass. Unfortunately, the receiver was too stunned by the play to convert the perfect setup into a goal.
Polni's
J. Škůrek was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 86 minutes.
With 87 minutes played, Polni's
J. Škůrek almost extended the lead, but his shot from the left glanced off the top of the bar to fall behind the net.
J. Škůrek remonstrated furiously with the referee after Polni had another decision go against them. The referee had no alternative but to show him another yellow card and send him from the pitch.
The Polni captaincy was handed to
R. Švarc.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Polni, with 72 percent of the ball.
Most important Polni player was
M. Mettomäki.
On the other hand,
L. Dumitru's play was disheartening.
E. Max performed admirably for Derani.
B. Alméras turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 2 - 0.
