10220 punters turned up at
The Pitch in 65,000,000 B.C., and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came.
Polizois Roditis was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Bob Kaser and
Jeremy MacAdie.
Meatballs tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination.
They fielded: Monteiro - Longhi, Hevosmaa, Skogander, van der Gouw, Felismino - Wahlstein, Scardina, Perin - Kotti, Messier.
A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Canucks.
Starters: Solomon - Johnson, Richey, Pitre, Tousignant - Lacombe, Houston, Fournier, Beaulac - Salmon, Paul.
Meatballs took the lead 2 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as
C. Scardina elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar.
The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave
G. Beaulac from Canucks a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 36 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient!
The head of
C. Scardina connected with a corner kick after 37 minutes, and the ball ended up with
B. Skogander of Meatballs who blasted the ball into the net, making the score 2 - 0.
With 40 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Meatballs resulted in a counterattack that set
J. Wahlstein free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save.
T. Solomon was caught napping as
J. Kotti lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms.
The teams went for the halftime break at 2 - 0.
Meatballs had most of the ball, with 57 percent of possession.
Canucks's
A. Lacombe was dominating his wing and kept sending fine balls into the opposition's box -
J. Salmon managed to volley one of them into the net to make it 2 - 1 after 47 minutes.
Cheers filled the stadium as
J. Messier broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 3 - 1 to Meatballs.
Meatballs put in a good effort on the right, but
J. Kotti saw his volley fly wide of the mark 69 minutes into the game.
Possession in this half belonged to Meatballs, who controlled the ball 60 percent of the time.
The most dominating Meatballs player was without a doubt
J. Kotti.
On the other hand,
M. Hevosmaa's play was disheartening.
Canucks's top performer was clearly
A. Lacombe.
However,
T. Solomon made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 3 - 1.
