previous 3/10 next 5/10  Sydney 0 - 2 Waverley (266912081)

Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 54095 to The Tigers Den. Ignacio Del Real was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Peker Akkan and Jean Pierre Vanden Abeele. All of New South Wales was shut down for the day, as fans of both clubs came to the derby. A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Sydney. They fielded: Vesile - Ernest, James, Moorehouse, Borgdorff, Śniadek - Kleinhampl, Dordea, Ðekić - Iriso, Klinter.

Waverley decided to use a 3-5-2 set up. Lineup: Buganim - Dalpasso, Deconca, Amstein - Schirone, Fanni, Meunier, Takeshita, Retterath - Stanley, Chenlo.

Waverley tried to focus their attacks down the middle. 4 minutes into the game, J. Amstein almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. S. Shubarev was called on to replace Sydney's G. Dordea after 9 minutes following a nasty collision. The visiting R. Stanley was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 19 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. With the scoreboard showing that 24 minutes had been played, Waverley nearly put themselves up another goal after X. Chenlo came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save. 0 - 1 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Waverley, who controlled the ball 88 percent of the time.

The home crowd cheered when, after 51 minutes, X. Chenlo's charge up the middle resulted in the keeper making one of his best saves of the day. X. Chenlo of Waverley was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. An indecisive keeper looked on as a free kick by Waverley's W. Dalpasso put the visitors up 0 - 2 after 66 minutes. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, J. Amstein got himself booked. The manager of Waverley was not happy. Waverley enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 88 percent of possession.

Sydney's top performer was clearly M. Moorehouse. S. Shubarev was a disappointment, however. Most important Waverley player was A. Buganim. On the other hand, G. Schirone's play was disheartening. The match ends 0 - 2.
