previous 3/3 next 2/3  Portugal 0 - 6 Amial (286837756)

Dark skies made the crowd of 15769 at Mini Portugal Arena a little nervous, but the rain held off. Blake Cuevas was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Everaert Van Durme and Steve Annis. People from all over Porto - Grande Porto had joined up for the derby. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Portugal. Starters: Pinheiro Ferreira - Pereira Domingos, Miranda, Azevedo, Santos Braga - Faria Ferreira, Monteiro, Moreira, Faria - de Almeida, Peixoto.

Amial started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Quinteros - Karandeev, Gutierrez, Mardaga - Gâmboa, Donea, Magnusson, Anolli, Mello - Pierri, Bautris.

The guests took the lead 9 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in S. Donea scoring to make it 0 - 1. Some fine movement on the left led to a Amial goal after 22 minutes, making it 0 - 2. B. Mardaga was noted down as the scorer. 23 minutes into the game a free kick by C. Bautris found its way through the home side's poorly assembled defensive formation, making Amial's lead 0 - 3. The players of Amial now seemed to think the job was done and acted more defensively, just waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle. Portugal's D. Faria found himself alone on the left side 24 minutes into the match and laid down a perfect shot - right into the arms of the keeper! 0 - 3 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Amial, who controlled the ball 77 percent of the time.

C. Bautris received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 53 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 4. The Amial fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. After 57 minutes, following yet another great corner, P. Magnusson's flick on at the near post reached P. Anolli, who was just wide with his snapshot - the ball went out for a goal kick. After 58 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave F. Pierri a chance to increase the lead for Amial, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 5. Amial's S. Donea was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 69 minutes. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, A. Monteiro got himself booked. The manager of Portugal was not happy. With 79 minutes played, Amial's well-worked indirect free kick caused havoc in the penalty area, and when the ball eventually fell to P. Anolli he gleefully slotted the ball home to make it 0 - 6. Amial enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 76 percent of possession.

Portugal's top performer was clearly J. de Almeida. On the other hand, D. Pinheiro Ferreira's play was disheartening. P. Magnusson performed admirably for Amial. L. Gâmboa turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 0 - 6.
