It had rained all day, but 46033 hardy fans still made it out to Skanksta's Park. Martti Kerman was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Siel de la Serna and Walter Züst. Matty had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Starters: Gianfagna - Pielstroom, Mik, Beerta, Brossier - Bastarrica, Uhrskov, Vildyaev, Nyathi - Constantin, Van Der Taelen.

A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Basilisks. Lineup: MacMains - Kalo, Geerdink, Camarero, Peteratzinger - Clune, Costanzo, Caçapa, Nayyar - Weyts, Agnoli.

Matty seemed to prefer attacking in the middle. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Basilisks. With 13 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Basilisks resulted in a counterattack that set D. Nayyar free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when O. Weyts slipped through the defence on the right to come up alone against V. Gianfagna, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. L. Geerdink did not have a good day today, often losing his footing on the muddy pitch. Some great play up the middle by Matty led to a chance for K. Mik to score after 39 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar. Matty took the lead 40 minutes in, as O. Constantin broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave L. Clune from Basilisks a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 41 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! V. Gianfagna was the unlucky victim and couldn't continue the game, so Matty's A. Iguerabide had to come off the bench. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Matty, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

Cheers filled the stadium as K. Mik broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Matty. R. Pielstroom was having a great game - if anything the pouring rain seemed to be spurring him on! Things were going to get worse for the visitors. O. Constantin squirmed through their central defence after 62 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 0. Matty were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. The bench was restless, and with 75 minutes passed Basilisks's coach gave J. Blokzijl the opportunity the player had been hoping for. C. Peteratzinger reluctantly left the field. Matty had most of the ball, with 59 percent of possession.

Y. Van Der Taelen performed admirably for Matty. A. Iguerabide on the other hand, had a terrible day. Basilisks's best player was E. MacMains. J. Blokzijl turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 3 - 0.
