41400 punters turned up at
Bazaly Arena 68, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came.
Kristof Deman was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Pekka Viita-aho and
Victor Gastinel.
A 3-4-3 alignment was the formation of choice for FCB.
Lineup: Lumini - Andreasson, Maguolo, Jurberģis - Bischoff, Arroxo, Follerau, Aarnes - Dzik, Seheim, 偌琨 (Ruokun).
Gambiti decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
They fielded: Konáš - Zein, Kromonen, Pirkl - Bajusz, Ševčík, Trane, Gleditsch, Romoli - Pagacz, Nascimento.
After 16 minutes, Gambiti were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
W. Pirkl did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
25 minutes into the game,
J. Pagacz had a great chance to put his team ahead, but his kick from the left went wide.
A well placed corner kick from
H. Ševčík was followed by
R. Romoli's hard but accurate header. The well executed routine resulted in a goal for Gambiti, the score now 0 - 1.
After 38 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave
B. Zein a chance to increase the lead for Gambiti, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 0 - 2.
40 minutes into the game,
H. Ševčík had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came
A. Musci.
It was 0 - 2 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Gambiti, with 57 percent of the ball.
The visitors'
T. Kromonen took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 76 minutes into the match. 0 - 3 for Gambiti.
The coach of Gambiti was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 76 minutes,
H. Lorenc came on for
W. Pirkl.
As the game started to slip away for FCB, the manager decided to change the tactical approach.
T. Kromonen received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 78 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 4. The Gambiti fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early.
After 80 minutes, FCB used a short break in the game to take new instructions from their coach.
FCB reduced the lead to 1 - 4 with 82 minutes on the clock when
T. Jurberģis got the best of a ball floated in from the left.
A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from
S. Gleditsch after 85 minutes, and prevented Gambiti from going up another goal.
With 87 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed
J. Pagacz of Gambiti to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 1 - 5.
By now, the players in Gambiti felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
Gambiti's
R. Nascimento left the field after 88 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
G. Canà.
J. Konáš was handed the Gambiti captain's armband.
Possession in this half belonged to Gambiti, who controlled the ball 60 percent of the time.
L. Dzik performed admirably for FCB.
J. Aarnes was a disappointment, however.
Gambiti's top performer was clearly
G. Canà.
However,
H. Lorenc made a disastrous appearance.
The match ends 1 - 5.
