Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 53000 to
Kurta Kobeina memorials.
Pablo Tejera was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Kim Risskog and
Dušan Bobuľský.
Zekturs had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation.
They fielded: Pezzini - Heuninckx, Steccanella, Credenza, Henderson - Haider, Amieva, Kunze, Jämsén, Gowin - Baekelandt.
Kabacis tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination.
Lineup: Godbeck - Boos, Al-Kaleel, Torres - Letang, Östquist, Koukkari, Nagl, Bertilsson - Ulreich, Dzintars.
Zekturs were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
The guests almost went up by a goal after 22 minutes when
M. Koukkari came through and shot from the right. The ball bounced harmlessly off the post, though.
With 26 minutes gone, a long pass from the defence of Zekturs resulted in a counterattack that set
N. Haider free through the middle, but the keeper made a spectacular diving save.
Zekturs's
K. Kunze left the field after 27 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was
J. Pumpa.
After 28 minutes, Kabacis were awarded a free kick. Rather than shooting straight at goal, the taker went for an indirect variant which seemed to take his team mates a bit by surprise.
S. Letang did attempt a finish, but from an awkward position, sending the ball into the away fans.
31 minutes into the match, Kabacis nearly took the lead, as
Ā. Dzintars broke through on the right.
M. Pezzini made the save, however.

Y. Baekelandt's finish was met by the reaching hands of the keeper.
It was 0 - 0 at the break.
Possession in this half belonged to Kabacis, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.
T. Bertilsson had a good opportunity to give Kabacis the lead as he charged down the right and struck the ball towards the top corner, but the home team's goalkeeper made the save.
K. Nagl would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
D. Bātulis entered the game for Kabacis as the match clock showed 65 minutes.
D. Bātulis was the new captain of Kabacis - handed the armband by the departing player.
65 minutes into the game, Kabacis wanted to bring some new energy to their game.

J. Torres after 71 minutes following a nasty collision.
Kabacis's
R. Larsen was shown a yellow card after 77 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
Unfortunately for Zekturs,
C. Credenza was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field.
Ā. Delle replaced him.
A mistake by the home side's central defence after 81 minutes allowed
R. Peltola to score for Kabacis. The scoreboard now read 0 - 1.
A drive down the left side allowed
R. Larsen to get in close and score another goal for Kabacis after 84 minutes, taking the score to 0 - 2.
D. Steccanella tried to get a goal back for Zekturs but despite all his hard work down the right, he just couldn't complete the move.
Kabacis enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 63 percent of possession.
Zekturs's top performer was clearly
Y. Baekelandt.
However,
Ā. Delle made a disastrous appearance.
The most dominating Kabacis player was without a doubt
R. Larsen.
T. Bertilsson on the other hand, had a terrible day.
The match ends 0 - 2.
