Fuenlabrada started off with a 3-5-2 lineup.
They fielded: Simón - Reis, Amoroso, Decarli - Cirna, Manias, Siricotico, Milligan, Mattanen - Udommungkalanon, Micu.
Botifarra decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Puig - Puigventós, Piñol, Pallarès - Frigola, Pellisé, Fontseré, Llopart, Macià - Soler, Riba.
Botifarra mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle.
6 minutes into the game
M. Macià could see that the opposing goalie was out of position and tried an unexpected lob that the keeper just barely reached. The rebound went to
V. Frigola who failed to hit the target.
M. Pellisé had a good try after 17 minutes, coming in on a fine move from the left, but the ball went wide.
R. Simón looked great 37 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors'
N. Riba.
The referee showed Botifarra's
D. Llopart the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.
Due to a severely mistimed tackle,
P. Mattanen of Fuenlabrada spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game.
Down the middle came
N. Riba, making a fantastic play that nearly had Botifarra take the lead after 41 minutes, but
R. Simón preserved the tie.
It was 0 - 0 at the break.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Botifarra, with 51 percent of the ball.
Botifarra's
P. Soler could have put the guests one up after 47 minutes after chasing a through ball from the right, but
R. Simón was as fast as a snake, grabbing the ball from under his nose.
Some great play up the middle by Fuenlabrada led to a chance for
L. Milligan to score after 53 minutes, but the shot hit the crossbar.
D. Llopart would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise.
M. Solís entered the game for Botifarra as the match clock showed 65 minutes.
After 67 minutes, the Botifarra coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving
N. Riba off the field.
J. Sendrós took his place.
69 minutes into the game, Botifarra wanted to bring some new energy to their game.
P. Soler gave
M. Català a quick hug as he left the field.
75 minutes in, Botifarra's
M. Solís received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first.
Fuenlabrada took the lead 76 minutes in, as
R. Micu broke through on the left and put the 1 - 0 shot just beyond the reach of the outstretched keeper.
Botifarra claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 53 percent.
Fuenlabrada's top performer was clearly
L. Amoroso.
R. Simón was a disappointment, however.
Most important Botifarra player was
D. Fontseré.
A. Pallarès turned in a dismal performance, however.
The match ends 1 - 0.
