Tanzania 1 - 10 Iran

Clouds darkened the skies at Chuo Kikuu Arena as 81550 spectators turned up for the match. Apollonas Manosaridis was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Fernandas Vygracas and Marc Lustenberger. U-20 Tanzania tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination. They fielded: Wangwe - Ndesamburo, Wasira, Mrema, Ngwilizi, Ngozi - Marmo, Mhina, Lyamba - Sumry, Manyinyi.

U-20 Iran decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. The following players took the field: Heshmatzadeh - Rezaei, Sherafati - Pourheydari, Nasiri, Niazi, Manavi, Aghili - Kasraei, Naji, Ahmadi.

The guests took the lead 3 minutes into the match, after a right-side attack resulted in R. Niazi scoring to make it 0 - 1. H. Nasiri came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over S. Wangwe but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. 28 minutes into the game, U-20 Tanzania seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a solid level of organisation. The home crowd was not impressed when D. Kasraei came in from the right, shooting hard to score after 31 minutes. U-20 Iran were now up 0 - 2. After this, you could see that the players of U-20 Iran were more interested in killing time than scoring more goals. After 32 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as U-20 Tanzania found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. R. Manavi of U-20 Iran took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 34 minutes which increased the away team's lead to 0 - 3. U-20 Iran's K. Rezaei was shown a yellow card after 35 minutes for slicing down an opponent. Unfortunately for U-20 Tanzania, B. Manyinyi was injured when the game became more physical, and he had to leave the field. J. Sumaye replaced him. O. Naji received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 41 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 4. The U-20 Iran fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. 0 - 4 was the halftime score. U-20 Iran claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 71 percent.

The U-20 Tanzania players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid organisation when the game started again. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, U-20 Tanzania's A. Wasira was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 47 minutes. J. Masilingi was given a chance to change things around. After 47 minutes, W. Marmo sent the corner kick right to S. Mrema who headed it sharply past the keeper. 1 - 4! 50 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 5 as K. Rezaei finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. With 60 minutes played, the U-20 Tanzania coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. E. Mwangonda came on, P. Mhina had to leave the fray. After 60 minutes, the U-20 Iran players received new instructions from their manager on how to keep in control of the game. The U-20 Tanzania players listened closely to their manager, as he gave new tactical instructions for the team. Unhappy with the result so far in the game, the U-20 Tanzania manager used a brief break in play after 70 minutes to give the players new directives. The coach of U-20 Iran was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 70 minutes, M. Abpakhshi came on for D. Kasraei. Content with how the game was proceeding, the U-20 Iran coach let P. Pashazadeh replace K. Rezaei after 75 minutes. 81 minutes into the match U-20 Iran's H. Pourheydari head butted an opponent nastily, and so the referee sent him off immediately. The U-20 Iran captaincy was handed to M. Abpakhshi. Some fine movement on the left led to a U-20 Iran goal after 83 minutes, making it 1 - 6. R. Manavi was noted down as the scorer. There was concern in the stands when, at the 84 minute mark, U-20 Tanzania's W. Marmo hit the ground hard, but he refused the attention of the trainer and rejoined his teammates on the pitch. After 86 minutes, an incisive pass through the middle gave M. Sherafati a chance to increase the lead for U-20 Iran, and he did not disappoint. The score was then 1 - 7. Almost all the way down to the corner flag, U-20 Iran's S. Aghili somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for M. Abpakhshi, who struck for 1 - 8. After 88 minutes, a mistake by the home side's left defence allowed S. Aghili to get through. He outclassed the home side's keeper, adding another goal for the visitors. 1 - 9. A drive down the left side allowed H. Nasiri to get in close and score another goal for U-20 Iran after 89 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 10. U-20 Iran enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 70 percent of possession.

U-20 Tanzania's top performer was clearly J. Sumaye. C. Ngozi was a disappointment, however. The most dominating U-20 Iran player was without a doubt M. Abpakhshi. On the other hand, M. Sherafati's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 10.
