previous 6/7 next 1/7  NRFC 4 - 3 Team890 (331237531)

Dark skies made the crowd of 3529 at La Stade De Neumann a little nervous, but the rain held off. Gheorghe Costache was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Mika 'Mrgud' Peurajärvi and Heiko Hoser. NRFC decided to use a 2-5-3 set up. They fielded: D'Hooghe - Spanhaak, Matsson - Vaal, Somogyi, Milanesi, Doktor, Porteria - Lopes, Szabó, Talo.

Team890 started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. Lineup: Panão - Freundt, Drukman, Bura - Scarpa, Fino, Samstag, Sambrook - Dijkman, Pérez, Polignino.

Team890 tried to focus their attacks down the middle. 4 minutes into the match and the home team took a 1 - 0 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for NRFC was A. Vaal. Team890 tied it all up, 18 minutes in, after a spectacular goal by W. Pérez, who miraculously broke through the home side's central defence, making it 1 - 1. NRFC were very close to putting themselves one up after 28 minutes as A. Vaal got through on the left, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide. The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 after 40 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from X. Porteria, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. Some things can only be learned through experience, and A. Fino should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting NRFC a goal with 41 minutes of the match played. NRFC solidified their lead at the 42 minute mark, as X. Porteria dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 3 - 1. It was 3 - 1 at the break. NRFC enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 59 percent of possession.

Team890 were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Team890 were desperate to get a goal back and pushed forward through the middle 49 minutes into the game. After a scramble in the box, the ball dropped to M. Scarpa, who smashed it home to make the score 3 - 2. G. Polignino tied the game at 3 - 3 after 68 minutes, when he converted an incredible pass from the right. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, W. Pérez got himself booked. The manager of Team890 was not happy. A. Vaal gave NRFC the lead as he successfully challenged the guests' central defenders, then slotted the ball into the bottom corner, giving the keeper no chance. 4 - 3 NRFC claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.

NRFC's best player was N. Somogyi. I. Doktor turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Team890 player was P. Bura. A. Fino was a disappointment, however. The match ends 4 - 3.
