6832 fans braved the pouring rain at Staples Center. Salvador Morán was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Rob Wallace and Xavier Grondin. People from all over California had joined up for the derby. Patricios decided to use a 4-3-3 set up. J. Barnett slipped and slithered in the wet grass. His usual rapid runs were nowhere to be seen today. T. Sanderson looked great 24 minutes into the match after stopping a shot from the middle of the penalty area from the visitors' R. Weller. 36 minutes into the game, Patricios had difficulty finding their positions and their organisation dropped to passable. 37 minutes into the game, R. Weller almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. Magna's E. Cuellar was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 38 minutes. After the game, the most discussed event will probably be the penalty given after 40 minutes that gave the visitors the 0 - 1 lead. Despite the controversy, D. Posey struck home the penalty, as cool as anything. W. Dove was uncomfortable with the soggy pitch as he couldn't move the ball around with his usual grace. After 43 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Patricios found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to passable. The visitors' C. Bautista took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 44 minutes into the match. 0 - 2 for Magna. 44 minutes in, Patricios appeared unsure on how to play and their organisation was only inadequate. Halftime score was 0 - 2. Possession in this half belonged to Magna, who controlled the ball 78 percent of the time.

During the break, Patricios's coach went through the team's tactics yet again, getting them up to solid organisation. 58 minutes into the game, Patricios seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a inadequate level of organisation. Always quick on his feet, Patricios's J. Barnett sped down the field after 65 minutes, but his pass to D. Cannon was just a bit too far ahead for him to get a good shot off. D. Posey received a delicate pass through the home side's central defence after 66 minutes, and chipped it past the flailing keeper to score making it 0 - 3. The Magna fans went wild, whilst the home fans started to think about leaving early. 67 minutes into the game a free kick by D. Posey found its way through the home side's poorly assembled defensive formation, making Magna's lead 0 - 4. That made three goals for D. Posey and he was marked down for the hat trick. Confident in their lead, Magna's players relaxed and focused more on defending the lead than increasing it. With 79 minutes played, Magna put themselves up 0 - 5 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was R. Weller. D. Posey could have put his team up another goal 80 minutes into the game, after a rush down the left, but his closing shot hit the post. Magna increased their lead after 83 minutes when L. Courtney broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 6, much to the home crowd's dismay. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Magna, with 80 percent of the ball.

T. Lindsay performed admirably for Patricios. T. Sanderson turned in a dismal performance, however. Magna's top performer was clearly D. Posey. W. Dove was a disappointment, however. The match ends 0 - 6.
