Clear skies welcomed the 7843 spectators who had made their way to Sfanta Varvara. Robbe Wouters was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Rune Stenberg and Matouš Rákosník. Guyon of Lignitul fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. P. Serban came close to levelling the score 5 minutes into the game, as he was set up with a through ball coming in from the left, but his shot hit the post. 17 minutes into the match, a typically brave header by A. Nátor from P. Serban's cross looped just over the opposing goalkeeper's desperate reach. Goal for Callatis, making the score 1 - 1. After 21 minutes, Callatis raised their score by one when P. Serban's dangerous low cross was cleverly tucked in at the near post by B. Dragomir. 1 - 2. A drive down the left side allowed B. Dragomir to get in close and score another goal for Callatis after 22 minutes, taking the score to 1 - 3. After 34 minutes, Lignitul's P. Girod fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 3. Callatis enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 54 percent of possession.

The visitors' H. Stenberg took advantage of a misunderstanding between the home side's goalie and centre backs 57 minutes into the match. 1 - 4 for Callatis. N. Alaz of Callatis received a yellow card after 60 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. S. Prokopiuk came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over W. Joyner but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. Callatis's T. Budacu was shown a yellow card after 73 minutes for slicing down an opponent. A loud groan was heard from the fans of Lignitul, as I. Tzemach left the pitch in too much pain to finish the match. O. Talabă took his place on the field. F. Milazzo increased Callatis's lead to 1 - 5 with a superb free kick strike that flew in just under the far top corner. Callatis had most of the ball, with 60 percent of possession.

Most important Lignitul player was D. Guyon. K. Száraz on the other hand, had a terrible day. A. Nátor performed admirably for Callatis. I. Saftiuc was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 5.
