previous 6/8 next 8/8  Megadethdude 2 - 1 Barnsley (358952920)

Dark skies made the crowd of 12000 at Vics garge stadium a little nervous, but the rain held off. Evan Barrett-Jolley was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Aragorn Guzzetti and Jonathan Marques. People from all over Yorkshire had joined up for the derby. Megadethdude started off with a 4-4-2 lineup. They fielded: Ainger - Watkins, Stallard, Beard, Bryan - Platts, Palmer, Barker, Rogers - Chappell, Major.

Barnsley tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Crane - Jago, Challa, Smith, Dunsford - Whitaker, Cleere, Anderson, Keohane - Heskey, Calderhead.

G. Calderhead came close to putting the visiting team one up 2 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but R. Ainger managed to tip the ball to a corner. Almost all the way down to the corner flag, Megadethdude's C. Rogers somehow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for S. Platts, who struck for 1 - 0. Undaunted, Barnsley managed to tie it all up after 13 minutes, with L. Jago's lucky free kick. The score was 1 - 1. With the clock showing 19 minutes played, a great pass from the defensive line of Barnsley resulted in a counterattack that was smoothly brought under control by I. Cleere in the centre of the opposition's penalty area, but his finish went high. L. Taylor was called on to replace Barnsley's H. Whitaker after 20 minutes following a nasty collision. It was 1 - 1 at the break. Possession in this half belonged to Megadethdude, who controlled the ball 54 percent of the time.

After a fine move down the middle A. Major nearly gave the home side a goal after 57 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. 69 minutes of the match played, and a comedy of errors by the home side gave the visitors a chance at the lead, but K. Anderson, after finding himself dashing down on goal from the left with only the keeper to beat, sliced his shot horribly wide. The home side put themselves ahead 2 - 1 after 70 minutes courtesy of a breakthrough from P. Palmer, who scored with a stunning volley following a cross from the right wing. V. Bryan should probably have put his team up another goal after 73 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by C. Crane kept the visitors in the game. M. Chappell could have increased the lead after 75 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. Megadethdude had most of the ball, with 56 percent of possession.

S. Platts performed admirably for Megadethdude. On the other hand, R. Ainger's play was disheartening. Barnsley's top performer was clearly L. Taylor. J. Challa on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 2 - 1.
