Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 12000 to Joe's Aftermix Fc Arena. Tony Wale was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Ruperto Escudero and Asher Zohar. A 4-4-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Aftermix. Starters: Lyley - Henson, Smith, Gallagher, Camden - Stanford, Willox, Clare, Erwig - Fackrell, Plaza.

Aftermix mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 4 minutes, but D. Clare was unable to convert from short range. After 21 minutes, Aftermix's V. Smith fell awkwardly, but was determined to stay in the match. That's the spirit! L. Jago came close to putting the visiting team one up 25 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but B. Lyley managed to tip the ball to a corner. Aftermix took the lead after 30 minutes as a result of B. Gallagher's peach of a shot from the right hand side of the box - placed beautifully in the top corner. 1 - 0. D. Clare of Aftermix received a yellow card after 42 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. 1 - 0 was the halftime score. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Barnsley, with 56 percent of the ball.

After 54 minutes Barnsley tried to exploit their counterattacking skills, unfortunately, K. Anderson's shot sailed wide after his break down the right. Aftermix's B. Gallagher had an excellent opportunity after 61 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! A penalty 63 minutes into the game gave the home side a chance at adding to the score, but an overconfident P. Henson shot the ball wide trying to put it away in the top corner. It might be a while before the fans see Barnsley's H. Whitaker again, after he had to leave the field in great distress at the 66 minute mark. He was replaced by L. Taylor. T. Willox could have increased the lead after 71 minutes, but his shot hit the post after a nice combination in the middle of the park. The visitors' equaliser seemed sure to come after 74 minutes, following a one on one situation around the left hand side of the goal area, but B. Lyley got the best of it, blocking the shot from R. Heskey. After 75 minutes, the defensive line of Aftermix created a counterattack through the middle that gave M. Plaza a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. Barnsley claimed to have seen most of the ball, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 57 percent.

The most dominating Aftermix player was without a doubt B. Gallagher. B. Lyley was a disappointment, however. Barnsley's top performer was clearly L. Taylor. On the other hand, J. Challa's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 0.
