Galway Bay 1 - 2 Penguins (363024780)

Due to an all-day shower, 1388 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at Galway Mega-Dome. Raul Võsa was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Martijn Gerbrands and Marek Brudnicki. Galway Bay tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players took the field: Baío - Sayım, Prochal, McGregor - Bonaparte, 景颂 (Jingsong), Pardo, Thorpe, Kitzinger - Laloata, Penga.

Penguins decided to use a 5-5-0 set up. Starters: Grassivaro - Leonhard, Denkmair, Pestarino, Prühn, Schacke - Nikau, Kovács, Kotz, Chrobotny, Oargă -.

Galway Bay mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle. The strategy for Penguins was to use their ability to press. The head of R. Oargă connected with a corner kick after 13 minutes, and the ball ended up with M. Pestarino of Penguins who blasted the ball into the net, making the score 0 - 1. The referee showed Galway Bay's B. Thorpe the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The pressing tactics used by Penguins were successful as the ball remained close to the half way line at all times. Galway Bay's S. Bonaparte was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 31 minutes. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Galway Bay, with 55 percent of the ball.

A. Prühn's lack of experience almost gave Galway Bay a goal after 47 minutes, but the shot went right into the keeper's arms. After 61 minutes of play, A. Pardo equalised for Galway Bay after an elegant attack from the right. Penguins pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. After 65 minutes, the Penguins coach had a quick word about the tactical set-up and decided to try another approach. 65 minutes into the match, the Penguins manager wanted to try a new tactic, and the players loyally obliged. With 65 minutes gone, Galway Bay's B. Thorpe had to leave the pitch after talking back to the referee and receiving his second booking. M. Prochal became the new Galway Bay captain. 70 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Penguins substitution. R. Tavori came on for J. Chrobotny. 80 minutes into the game, Penguins wanted to bring some new energy to their game. O. Kotz gave G. Khoteev a quick hug as he left the field. G. Kovács would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. V. Erakıncı entered the game for Penguins as the match clock showed 80 minutes. F. Denkmair of Penguins was booked for kicking the ball away after the whistle. Penguins's ability to press all over the field frequently paid dividends. 85 minutes in, Penguins's M. Pestarino received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. C. Laloata of Galway Bay had to be helped off the pitch as an injury meant he was unable to finish the game. Ş. Stoenescu came in to finish the match. Penguins had most of the ball, with 53 percent of possession.

With the scores being level after 90 minutes, the match went into extra time. Penguins's talent at pressing frustrated the spectators as the game became a dire midfield struggle. The most controversial moment of the game was likely the penalty given after 101 minutes. Penguins's E. Leonhard kept his concentration, despite the upset crowd, and calmly put the ball past the keeper to make the score 1 - 2. This put an end to extra time, making Penguins the winners. T. Penga performed admirably for Galway Bay. A. McGregor was a disappointment, however. Most important Penguins player was G. Khoteev. On the other hand, A. Prühn's play was disheartening. The match ends 1 - 2.
