Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and Art Fabrie stadion saw a crowd turnout of 51000. Rinus Winkelhagen was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Clint Rutland and Bruno Vicinanza. Willie tactics involved an interesting 2-5-3 combination. They fielded: van der Weerd - van der Zijde, Honig - de Maat, van Osch, Loevestein, Schiffers, Kirk Jensen - Bruens, Sies, Streppel.

Luckies started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. Starters: Bazzani - Cortázar, Oksar, Buma - Georgiev, Billeskov, Huygen, Klemets, Kuesel - Schetelig, Yebra.

0 - 1 was the score with 6 minutes played, after A. Buma cut through the central defence and chipped home a goal for Luckies. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, J. Sies got himself booked. The manager of Willie was not happy. 18 minutes into the game, A. Buma had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came N. Raksunthorndhuma. N. Raksunthorndhuma was handed the Luckies captain's armband. With 24 minutes having been played, Willie scored to make it 1 - 1. A dribble down the left wing, followed by a shot which took a wicked bounce off a defender resulted in the keeper having no chance. Everyone thought it'd been an own goal, but D. Schiffers was marked down as the scorer. At 25 minutes played, P. van Osch came in from the right with the intention of giving Willie the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. Willie had a good opportunity to take the lead as M. Honig came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of D. Bazzani. Down the middle came M. Klemets, making a fantastic play that nearly had Luckies take the lead after 36 minutes, but L. van der Weerd preserved the tie. 1 - 1 was the halftime score. Possession in this half belonged to Willie, who controlled the ball 59 percent of the time.

After a fine move down the middle H. Streppel nearly gave the home side a goal after 48 minutes. However the finishing shot went just wide. 56 minutes had elapsed when a great chance for Willie to take the lead after a good cross from the right found D. Schiffers alone with the keeper, but he chipped it to the wrong side of the post. In a rapid move 66 minutes into the match, P. Kirk Jensen of Willie lost his man and passed the ball to the unmarked H. Streppel who easily hit it home to make it 2 - 1. Luckily the ref didn't see him taunting the opposing fans in celebration - naughty boy! Willie's D. Schiffers had an excellent opportunity after 70 minutes, shooting after receiving a pass from the right hand side, but he missed the goal by miles! Things were going to get worse for the visitors. H. Streppel squirmed through their central defence after 71 minutes, increasing the lead to 3 - 1. After 76 minutes, Willie's lack of experience resulted in the team's loss of their edge at the end of the game. Luckies fought on and, after 79 minutes, L. Georgiev was able to reduce the deficit to 3 - 2 after some excellent moves on the right side were finished off with an incredibly clever chip. P. Kirk Jensen's curling free kick almost found the goal for Willie, but the visitors' keeper somehow managed to get ahold of it. Luckies were able to draw a foul with their counterattacks, but the shot from S. Yebra went into the arms of the keeper. 85 minutes in, Willie's R. Loevestein received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. J. Sies left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 89 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. E. Buikstra was the replacement. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Willie, with 54 percent of the ball.

H. Streppel performed admirably for Willie. J. de Maat turned in a dismal performance, however. Most important Luckies player was S. Yebra. N. Raksunthorndhuma was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 2.
