previous 3/9 next 5/9  Kordona 3 - 2 BROWSER (363254048)

The 3089 fans in attendance at Kordonas Halle were roasting in the hot sun. Rafay al-`Usmi was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Felix Scheurl and Jan Christiansson. Kordona had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Köntges - Kalniņš, Baumanis, Kalniņš - Stefans, Ceļš, Zālītis, Titarev, Cena - Bācis, Bācs.

BROWSER tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. They fielded: Arbel - Grobelnik, Öhrner, Jardim - Rogozik, Wester, Tailanian, Frunz, Dufrat - Marzadri, Stuckrad.

G. Zālītis received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 2 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score. After some beautiful movement down the left wing, O. Titarev scored for Kordona putting them ahead 1 - 0, after 20 minutes. Kordona's S. Kalniņš got himself booked for a foul. Several players seemed a little dazed by the warm weather, and were repeatedly tricked by the clever and agile A. Baumanis. After 30 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and V. Ceļš gave the Kordona supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 2 - 0. At this point, it was obvious that the players of Kordona lowered the tempo and became more defensively oriented. Morale on the visitors' bench was greatly improved when their T. Frunz reduced the lead to make it 2 - 1 after 36 minutes, following a pass from the right. With 39 minutes played, T. Frunz came in from the right and could have evened the score, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by BROWSER. A cross coming in on the right hand side left M. Marzadri alone in front of the goal after 40 minutes but his shot was woeful. 2 - 1 was the score after the first half. Possession was split evenly between the teams.

The visitors refused to give in and, after 54 minutes, J. Stuckrad evened things up as he finished off a perfect pass from the right. 2 - 2 With 60 minutes played, J. Stuckrad of BROWSER fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. V. Bācis's speed is always a threat when he gets a little room to move, and 79 minutes into the match was no different as he broke free of his man to send a delightful through ball to E. Bācs who knocked it in for Kordona. 3 - 2! Possession in this half belonged to BROWSER, who controlled the ball 51 percent of the time.

The most dominating Kordona player was without a doubt G. Zālītis. On the other hand, J. Kalniņš's play was disheartening. J. Stuckrad performed admirably for BROWSER. A. Öhrner was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 2.
