VELNI 0 - 2 YgNaTuS

Clear skies welcomed the 2484 spectators who had made their way to FK Velnciems Arena. Luud Geut was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Jeffrey Bouvy and Alejandro Cruz Calderón. After thorough analysis and consultation of astrological charts, VELNI decided to go with a 4-3-3 formation. Lineup: Tomsons - Cintiņš, Muhammed, Šmitiņš, Svece - Egle, Kalniņš, Dalland - Klismets, Matisons, Khayretdinov.

The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and YgNaTuS formed up in a 5-4-1 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. Starters: Aguirre - Hofkamp, Precatado, Nahuelpillán, Álamos, Manicardi - Marmentini, Aguado Orea, Rojas, Lastra - Jodar.

VELNI mostly relied on their long range shooting ability. E. Jodar came close to putting the visiting team one up 6 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but P. Tomsons managed to tip the ball over. After 12 minutes, YgNaTuS put themselves up 0 - 1, as B. Marmentini finished off a play from the left with a real rocket. The referee showed YgNaTuS's B. Marmentini the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. YgNaTuS's coach was furious with R. Aguado Orea after he picked up a yellow for saying one too many words to the ref. 25 minutes in, YgNaTuS appeared unsure on how to play and their organization was only passable. 41 minutes into the game, YgNaTuS had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to inadequate. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 1. Lewis Skolnick, in his Tri-Lamb sweater, grabbed the microphone away from the YgNaTuS coach in order to tell him that his team had 66 percent possession this half. Nerds.

A review of the gameplan helped YgNaTuS get back to a solid organization to start the second half. 50 minutes into the match, E. Jodar came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. VELNI mounted an inspired counter-attack down the right wing after 51 minutes, but A. Matisons was unable to convert from short range. Some things can only be learned through experience, and R. Rojas should take his lesson to heart after nearly gifting VELNI a goal after 57 minutes. 64 minutes into the game, YgNaTuS seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a passable level of organization. B. Hofkamp somehow managed to break free of his man on the left wing and only needed a relatively easy finish to bring YgNaTuS's lead up to 0 - 2. After 71 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as YgNaTuS found themselves out of position and their organization level dropped to inadequate. 78 minutes into the game, YgNaTuS worked the left side industriously creating several opportunities to add to their lead, but just couldn't apply the finishing touch. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 79 minutes on the clock after R. Nahuelpillán's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the YgNaTuS player a yellow card though. YgNaTuS came close to extending their lead as B. Marmentini delivered a low effort on goal from the right but the angle was too sharp, and the shot was destined for the side netting. 85 minutes into the game, YgNaTuS seemed a little tentative in their play as their organization fell to inadequate. B. Marmentini was, after 86 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the center, but the home side's keeper P. Tomsons made the save. YgNaTuS set the tempo, maintaining 67 percent of possession.

Most important VELNI player was P. Muhammed. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by P. Tomsons today. YgNaTuS's top performer was clearly R. Aguado Orea. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because R. Nahuelpillán seemed to stumble all over the pitch. The match ends 0 - 2.
