21723 punters turned up at
Nou Ribetenc, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came.
Étienne Prickartz was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Eleuterio Salvador Escuder and
Pigmalionas Natsis.
Everyone was excited about the upcoming
Catalunya derby and the crowd was divided evenly.
A 5-3-2 alignment was the formation of choice for Ribetenc.
Lineup: Rohrig - Gante, Streller, Villa, Mila Fuentes, De Coninck - Memnun, Göderts, Ziesler - Klug von Biedermann, Martinsson.
Abrerense decided to use a 3-5-2 set up.
The following players took the field: Farell - Belmans, Vancea, Erazo - Boyet, Blanco, Pazó, Saramak, Danielsen - Cuní, Loxo.
Ribetenc were relying on their ability to counter-attack.
G. Cuní gave the visitors the lead 12 minutes into the match to make it 0 - 1. The goal was scored from the penalty spot after a handball in the penalty area.
After 13 minutes, Abrerense sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached
N. Blanco, who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 0 - 2.
With 16 minutes played, seemingly due to lack of experience,
R. Saramak needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed.
Given a free kick close to the byline, Abrerense tried a move that loyal fans may recognise from training. A pass to the side pulled the defence out of position which let
P. Loxo slip through on goal. He didn't have to break his stride, and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 0 - 3, 34 minutes into the game.
The Abrerense free kick 35 minutes into the match seemed wasted, as the shot was both short and off target. But was this actually a plan? The ball landed at the feet of
R. Saramak, who was completely unmarked in the box. That's 0 - 4!
By now, the players in Abrerense felt that victory was guaranteed and began to play it safe, focusing on defence and not risking too much going forward.
It was 0 - 4 at the break.
Abrerense enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 73 percent of possession.
Ribetenc almost scored after a swift counterattack 49 minutes into the game, but
U. Klug von Biedermann put the shot from the left flank just outside the goal.
Ribetenc had to manage with a reduced squad after 58 minutes, as
Z. Memnun got sent off for a needless foul away from the game's action.
A defender managed to keep the ball from crossing the goal-line after a curling shot coming in from the right from
C. Erazo after 66 minutes, and prevented Abrerense from going up another goal.
After 67 minutes, the defensive line of Ribetenc created a counterattack through the middle that gave
J. De Coninck a good look at the goal, but his shot glanced harmlessly off the crossbar.
Ribetenc mounted an inspired counterattack down the right wing after 69 minutes, but
R. Martinsson was unable to convert from short range.
G. Mila Fuentes got left behind when Abrerense's
P. Loxo made a sudden run forward after 70 minutes, finishing off with a neat strike. 0 - 5!
With the scoreboard showing that 71 minutes had been played, Abrerense nearly put themselves up another goal after
B. Boyet came through on the left. Fortunately for the home crowd, the keeper made the save.
Ribetenc's
R. Streller was shown a yellow card after 73 minutes for slicing down an opponent.
In a fantastic display of determination, Abrerense's
N. Belmans forced himself to his feet, after an opponent viciously knocked him down.
75 minutes into the match,
M. Pazó came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide.
Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Abrerense, with 77 percent of the ball.
Ribetenc's top performer was clearly
C. Villa.
On the other hand,
L. Ziesler's play was disheartening.
P. Loxo performed admirably for Abrerense.
N. Belmans was a disappointment, however.
The match ends 0 - 5.
